Rock Bands That Everyone Likes But You Don't Like

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Been a big Genesis fan, ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that i didnt really understand any of their work, it was too artsy, too intellectual...it was on Duke where Phil Collins presence became more apparent...i think Invisible Touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece, its an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding 3 albums... listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford, you can practically hear every nuance of every instrument.

John...remove your dress.
Now I'm the opposite. Duke was about the last album I really liked, and after that, they were to "pop" for my liking. I would say one or two songe on Abacab, or Invisible Touch, but that's it.

Bands like Genesis, and Floyd, Yes all had the same problem, They were 24 track bands, in an 8 track world.

If you make fun of Frank, I'll kick your ass!

I've tried for years to figure out Frank Zappa but still cannot. He was an ambitious and talented guy who refused to stay within the lines playing by his own rules having his own style. I like that in a person and an artist. I just wish I could connect with his music. I still try from time to time. I respect Frank Zappa for being authentic and original.

Everybody that listens to Frank Zappa, is trying to figure out Frank Zappa. Even Frank couldn't figure out Frank.........that's what was so great about him, and his music.

Good take, Dayster. I'm an old Sabbath head who wants to like Frank. Some music is an acquired taste, I guess.
All forms of art, and artistic expression are an acquired taste, you like what you like, and that tends to change as you get older. When I was in high school, Metallica was doing what hardcore fans call their best work, I never started listening to it AFTER I listened to what some consider their sell out stage. You also need to remember, Zappa's catalog is so huge, You Might not have found anything you like yet. You'll never find anything remotely like Sabbath, but not all of it is weird and quirky. I wish the audio on this was better, but this is one of my favorites by Frank, he shreds. The other guy playing the Strat is Adrian Belew. He played in King Crimson, when they're working together, and is currently doing a King Crimson off chute called "Beat", without Fripp, and only the three albums Belew contributed too, Steve Vie is covering Fripps part, and he also played with Zappa, after Belew left for King Crimson. Maybe see what you think of these two.

Great clips. I like the first video especially. I enjoyed the groove and it reminded me just a little bit of Robin Trower.
