For the new version of the board, should we reset rep so it has meaning?

you a liar, i see no rep. where it at mutha fucka?

You can't see your rep power until you hit 100 posts, click on the Profile link (top left above notices) to see who has left you rep

So far rep has seemed like a fun little diversion, but it seems like it's causing a lot more problems than fun overall. Since Freeones himself doesn't want it to be eliminated entirely, I guess there's not much to do. Leave it as it is and the old problems will continue. Replace it with the thanks system (or any other system) or try to take it mean more than it does now and you're going to end up having even more problems and complaints from those that care about it too much.

So I guess that the only logical solution would be to keep it as it is, unless the moderators and team members are completely prepared to deal with the fallout.

I also came across a plugin for achievements...kind of like you get in the xbox and ps3 games I think. You can get little virtual trophies, ribbons, etc...staff can give out virtual gifts, you can trade them I think, and possibly even "buy" them to give for other people (I may be thinking about another plugin I saw that awards "credits" for things you do on the board).

If all the value they would have is decorative, then I don't see any point in using it. However, if one could get MyFreeOnes points for the achievents... Now, that would be good.

Here's a question for you. When we go to the new version of the board, should we reset repuation to 0?

Don't worry. As of this moment, there are absolutely ZERO plans to reset it so don't freak out.

The reason I'm asking this question is because I've been working with the programmer who maintains the board to get the new version set up. Right now reputation means nothing, except for some myFreeOnes points in the beginning, and has become over inflated. If certain members who have a really high rep give a new member rep, then they could possibly have the same amount of rep of someone who has been around awhile.

So my question to you is...should we leave it the way it is? Just a fun little game that means absolutely nothing?

Or should we reset it to 0 and add checks, balances, and privilages that come with having a high reputation?

Again...just because I'm asking these questions DOES NOT mean we're actually going to reset it. :)

NOTE: If you have an opinion but don't want to vote for fear of sounding silly about your opinion, please feel free to PM it to me. I already think rep is silly, so frankly, your opinion can't get any more silly than that. ;-) I'm also open to suggestions for alternatives to reputation that you might have seen elsewhere!

I went through this post for the 1st time, really.

It's not how the Board administrators view the rep system, but how the members look at it.

As of now, the voting result is evenly distributed between the two options given.

Being a member here for last 7 years, it meant nothing to me. I love this board. My deceased wife loved this board and we were loved back together, even a few members loved our little girl. I received a pm from an old moderator, a few days back, how Ava (my late daughter) is. It pained me to see the message but it also proved that they touched the heart of a few members on the board.

Now, that I'm a moderator, I find rep system is more a problem than a fun-game. As the members don't view it as a game. If it was, then there shouldn't have been so many flame-wars because of a few neg reps.

So in my opinion the rep system as it stands, should go.

There are a few suggestions about "Thank You" system. It is available in various forums running VBulletin at it's core. The benefit of that is; you can not give a negative "Thank You". So that will reduce the number of flame-games. Flamers can always be reported against and action can be taken against them through the present infraction system.

If you want a reward system to come in, that too can be accommodated through "thank You".

In several forums there are seniority system in the members area. Starting from Newbie to novice, then Sr. Member and so on.
Taking in to account the no of years on the board, his amount of nos of posts (It may spawn "post count Spam a lot" but that problem is there now, too) and the "Thank You"s received by him, a member can be promoted automatically from one level to the next.

This is my thought. May be silly, may be not. If it is called silly, then I will just shrug and get on with my moderation work.

Thank you all, members, if you have not slept in between and got to this line.

Best wishes.

if it isn't broke don't go messing i say

Well, that's the problem. As it stands, the system is quite broke.

And, for the record, the government's version of what you said is "if it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is." :)

Leave it alone please. There is nothing wrong with the rep system.

Hasn't it been reset before? If there are problems with the rep system, they won't be solved by resetting it. They will just... temporarily go away. I have long since stopped caring about getting rep or even giving rep, so maybe removing it might be an even better option.

Still voted "no", though.

I say leave it. I don't have an issue with the way it is. Who on here really judges their worth based on a number. It is just a fun way to show someone you appreciate their posts. :2 cents:

It seems like a lot of douchebags on here use it to show how big their e-cocks are. It's pathetic but then again so are they. I vote to reset it only because it would piss so many people off.
