Remakes

For the love of God I hope you aren't thinking of 2010:The Final Odyssey

Never seen either of them, so no. I think it was something to do with the Challenger space shuttle, but for all I know I'm getting it mixed up with a documentary. :dunno:

How about The Italian Job? I never even tried to watch that, you can't remake the Mini chase without Minis. Was it any good? :wave2:

The Italian Job was decent As long as they don't try and remake The Godfather I or II or Dog Day Afternoon or Heat, I won't feel compelled to go to Hollywood and ****** a studio executive.

Don't forget Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, The Bourne Identity, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Mummy, The Blob, The Fly, The Departed, Scarface, Four Brothers, Gone in Sixty Seconds, The Grudge, The Hills Have Eyes, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I Am Legend, The Jackal, King Kong, Little Shop of Horrors, Cape Fear, Bedazzled, The Omen, Ocean's Eleven, The Ring, Sweet November, The Lake House, Fatal Attraction, True Lies.

The only one that was better than the original is bourne identity. most are worse. a few such as The Ring are maybe as good. and some are terrible like I am Legend, it was worse than even the previous bad remake.

In the new bedazzled liz hurley was hot, but it wasn't really any better of a movie, even so. The fly might have been better, but it was nothing like the original; more like inspired-by than remade.

Any of you guys seen any good USA -> Asian remake like for example
Premium Link Upgrade - bollywood version of E.T ( its terrible but couldn't come up with anything else )

There are a few old movies that could be "modified" to improve special effects, like Star Wars did, but I can't think of any I'd like to be totally re-made. They always seem to get the new cast wrong. :( :wave2:

1. What is your opinion on remakes?
2. What are the remakes you would love to see made?
3. Which remakes were worthy to see?
4. Which remakes were a ******** to the original?

(I added the numbers)

1. For the most part, I **** remakes. I know that a lot of directors shoot remakes as a show of respect, but it comes off as disrespectful (to me) a lot of the time.

2. The original live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be a great movie for somebody to remake, with better effects, costumes, etc.

3. Well, most movies you see are remakes anyway, just to a certain extent. But, I liked the remakes of King Kong, Halloween, 3:10 to Yuma, The Jackal, The Thing, etc.

4. I hated the remakes of Brian's Song, Jason and the Argonauts, The Manchurian Candidate, Planet of the Apes, The Thomas Crown Affair (you can't remake Steve McQueen), etc.

As a horror fan, I have serious problem w/ remakes. most of them suck dick. It is proof of a lack on originality by the morons in Hollywood.

Still there are some good ones: Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, The Thing, the Blob, The Fly (my fav remake), the Ring, Dark Water, War of the Worlds, etc are solid remakes.

The worst remake had to be The Fog and the Omen. I could not even watch either of the two.

If you are gonna remake movies, remake bad ones or ones that bare fixing. I ain't a big fan of the original Prom Night, but the trailer to the remake, and the PG-13 rating, failed to cath my interest. That is a movie that could have been improved but doubt it was.

I am interested in seeing the Friday the 13th remake, even if the original is one of my fav films ever. But, it is made by the guy who the TCM remake, and that movie was mediocre, at best.

I dunno, I really want to like the new Day The Earth Stood Still. The original I saw in high school as part of a film class and it was freaking awesome. The first black and white movie I ever saw, and I loved it.

Another bad remake was the The Time Machine. I love time travel and stuff, and the concept with his wife had to die no matter what because if he saved her, then what made him build the time machine to go back and save her paradox was good, but that's about it.

that's a good point. All the stuff leading up to the time travel, and the time travel itself was pretty rad, but once he got there then I didn't really give a **** about the stupid morlocks.

So many remakes in the past years. As if originals were not good enough...

King Kong, War Of The Worlds, etc

What is your opinion on remakes?
What are the remakes you would love to see made?
Which remakes were worthy to see?
Which remakes were a ******** to the original?

I would like to see a remake of Forbidden Planet.

Peace.

The War of the Worlds remake was watchable. There were good parts and bad parts.

The Day the Earth Stood Still remake looks like complete garbage. The original is a **** Top 20 film of all-time, imo.

I don't necessarily MIND remakes but if Hollywood decides to make a remake off of a perfect classic--like The Day The Earth Stood Still--you better have a fucking great handle or 'hook' into the remake. A simple Keanu Reeves Special EFX moneygrab is not good reasoning.

There are plenty of shitty 70s movies that could be "remade." I think "Clash of the Titans" could be an interesting remake today. ***** 10 From Naverone could be made into a much more intersting movie too....

Ooo!! Just thought of something about the Punisher.

Okay, the very first Punisher movie came out in 1989. It starred Dolph Lundgren. It sucked HARD.

They remade it in 2004 starring Thomas Jane and speaking as a comic book geek, it rocked! I thought it was very good.

Then in 2008 they made another "reboot" (I still say it's a sequel) starring Ray Stevenson. It sucked HARD too.

the new battlestar galactica is a ******** to the original show

Remakes just show that the film studios are short of ideas. The worst has to be The Pink Panther with Steve Martin.Cringeworthy.

What is your opinion on remakes?

I really cant stand the amount of remakes that have been coming out over the last couple of years. I know that hollywood has always remake things but the sheer number of remakes lately makes you wonder. Are there no new writters and producers having good ideas anymore? There are thousands, millions of novels out there ****** to be made into movie (thats how it was done in the old days right?). But no, they are to lazy to get up off their asses and work that little bit harder to make something worth the price of admission. Its far easier to remake an existing movie putting new good looking stars and special effects into them so all us idiots can go along and have our minds numbed for 90 minutes.

What are the remakes you would love to see made?

I dont think I can think of a film that deserves a remake.

Which remakes were worthy to see?

Not all remakes are bad and IMO one of the best remakes is The Thing a magnificent film in its own right. There are a few others but not many.

Which remakes were a ******** to the original?

I can see the Oldboy remake, especially with Will Smith involved being just terrible.

I recently saw The Day The Earth Stood Still remake, and its just awful and its a ******** that they even remade it at all but now that they have all it does is kick dirt onto the originals name. What is it, cant **** today watch B&W films? Do we all have such short attention spans that without the constant flashing or birght colours we not interested in a good story? Probably.

The Dawn of the Dead remake is another one.

90% of all remakes ******** the orignal.

They should remake The Blob again! That movie would be fuckin awesome with todays special effects!

I don't know, it might be pretty funny to watch people's reaction to the end of that movie and the subsequent end of Mr. Smith's career.
