I saw that, that's like the 3rd one recently and I thought they were considered to be non existant.

Yeah, I remember a couple of other ones around the same time those two prehistoric sharks were found. Weird, wild stuff.

It boggles the mind that things like that can get so big.

That's funny my wife said the same thing last night, too bad she was talking about my gut.

Seriously though, very cool slowhand

In the picture you can see the guys foot... Compared to that, it doesn't really seem that big... Not shocking enough for me i'm afraid.

I was under the impression that it was twice or even three times as big

Same here BBB.

"It's a whopper," Tasmanian Museum senior curator Genefor Walker-Smith told local media on Wednesday. "The main mantle is about one meter across and its total length is about eight meters."

Well, comparing it to the guys foot, there is no way the main mantle is one meter. Unless his feet are gigantic.

We must keep in mind too that its a Squid not an Octopus. :) I think with movies these days and giant everything in them, some of us just aren't shocked with certain things. Sometimes not thinking, "Wow, this one is real" just thinking "I've seen bigger".

Anywho, I came across this as I was checking around for more info and found it interesting as well.

knows petras secret: she farted.
did you see that live footage they finally got of one? the japanese got one on film live for the first time ever a few months ago.

I think the squid would seem bigger if it were immersed in water.
I suspect that it's mass would have decreased due to dehydration.
