Rap sucks

but he was what u call untalented.
Artist such as Nas, Common, Kanye West have much more to say than 50 Cent. rap IS A FORM OF POETRY and some artist do believe in lyrical content

I HATE rap music..... but some artists like Common are poets. The "pop-rap" that you hear spewing out on the radio and on MTV is just garbage. I don't care if you drive a Bently or have bitches and hoes all up on you, but when you can tell a story and convey the emotion through your song, I give you much respect. I'll give any type of music a chance, but it has to have a point either instrumentally or vocally.

You hit it right on the head. When people see rap nowadays, they think about drugs, money, and hoes. When they think about it they see rappers like Souljah Boy, Lil Wayne, and 50 cent (who pretty much suck in my opinion). It didn't used to be like that.

Nothing will beat the late 80's, early 90's era of rap. It's been complete garbage since then.

Rap used to be good, because the artists would write lyrics that were more positive, emotional and straight up fun. Plus, they wouldn't use the same tired old bass lines that current artists use. Now, rap artists just use random slang terms that don't even make sense, they throw around derogatory insults on a constant basis and rap about how "tough" they think they are. Not to mention, their "music" is fucking terrible 99% of the time.

Ugly Duckling are probably my favourite hip hop group, very old skool & retain that fun party element.

Wow...you are the first person I've ever...met(?), that even knows who Ugly Duckling is.

"Honey was offended by the pick-up liiiiiine..."

But obviously, the people who insult hip-hop/rap without knowing anything about it are generally to ignorant to have their minds changed.

Interesting to see you say that.

Then also obviously, wouldn't the people who insult others' posts without knowing anything about them be generally too ignorant to have their minds changed as well? :hatsoff:

As a musician and guitar player of 18 years allow me to add my :2 cents:

Personally, I think rap blows. When I think of rap I think of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, 50 cent, Biggie, Smallie, In-betweenie, and so on... Name one who can actually play a fuckin' instrument... Yeah, that's what I thought. Repeating one beat for 4 minutes, and making a bunch of words rhyme does not impress me, nor does it equal music or art. It equals horseshit.

There's a lot of rap artists who can play instruments. Wyclef Jean, RZA, Dr. Dre, etc. They just don't play rock music with the instruments they play. The Roots...they play all of their own instruments (drums, bass, guitar, piano, etc). Just because they don't play songs that are considered rock, doesn't mean that they can't or don't play any instruments.

Repeating one beat for 4 minutes, and making a bunch of words rhyme does not impress me, nor does it equal music or art. It equals horseshit.

No offense, but your 18 year old youth really shows with that statement. You play guitar, so you're probably interested in rock music, I would assume. What do you think most rock songs are? They're usually one or two hooks (a set of chords) linked together for 4 or 5 minutes. That's exactly what you described as "repeating one beat for 4 minutes". The only difference is that there is usually a guitar solo thrown in somewhere.

FYI - I'm not a rap fan and I'm not defending it's artists. I just think that statement was a little...young.

I base my music on songs, however
I dislike 99% of Rap songs and 99.9% Death Metal music.
I like a few mainstream rap songs, \ Timberland's "The Way I Are" is a cool song, is it rap? If so I like it.
I also like Heavy Metal like Rob Zombie, I do not consider him death metal.

Gang lyric Rap f'n sucks just like Death Metal which gives me a headache and don't even ask me what the F they're yelling about??
The thing I don't like about the these two types of music is that there is no musical balance in the vocals.
Rap is Yo and Death is URRR there is no vocal melody and with that my brain does not relax to enjoy the song. I just get pissed off at the person who is forcing their music on me through their car into mine.

To me, Funk and Disco Crush Rap to bits as Heavy Metal and Rock and Roll obliterate Death Metal because the vocalist actually have musical vocal talent.

you are an idiot if you think rap sux, its by far the most explored and versatile genre of the 90's and 00's. If you dont like rap you are either a) someone who only likes one type of music, b)racist, or c)a girl/homosexual

Ok, explain to me how rap is "explored" and "versatile", because it is definitely neither of the two.

Also, why does everybody pull the fucking race card out when someone says that they think rap sucks? Isn't it kind of racist to assume that the rap genre is solely made up of black people? Ohhhh, hypocrisy is fun, isn't it? ;)

There are plenty of white rap artists, so how can anybody pull the race card?

So, in reality, it is not people who think that rap "sux" who are the idiots...it's you.

Are you kidding me? That just shows what you know... You and I must be listening to different rock music, BTW.

:dunno:

I still stand by my original statement. Rap is not music, rap is one drum beat with a bunch of words (usually lame-ass black slang words like dat, biotch, hizouse, foshizzle...) that rhyme. I repeat, horseshit.

If these guys actually have talent they're hiding it. :D

Short answer, no.

Wow, surprising.

What kind of rock music do you listen to then? Because, if you pay attention to the structure of most rock songs, it's the same structure as most rap songs. Obviously, the music is incredibly different, but the structure (that you don't like) is the same.
