Prince Harry in Afghanistan

Is somewhere outhere.
I understand the Monarchy is good for tourism but isn't it really slightly out of date? I mean the whole idea of people being so privledged officially, based strictly on being born to it sounds very much unequal to me.Not my country so I guess maybe I don't understand it in some ways that Brits do.But I know some Brits ,Christopher Hitchens comes to mind have expressed the same type of feeling, that it's day has passed.:dunno:

I'd agree to be honest it's becoming more like the Addams Familly with Prince Charles playing the part of Lurch - waitng for that throne ;)

I'd agree on that also. The royal family do nothing at all these days.

So what, he's a soldier thats he's job. He should not be treated any different.

He has to be treated differently. He is a major target, which is why it was kept secret. It's not just that it's too dangerous for him, it's that it's dangerous for everyone around him.

Last time there was a thread about William , I was surprised about the level of contempt toward William. If the paparazzi are on your ass, the people hate you ! Nice deal huh ?

I actually pity William and Harry, as the mocking and belittling continues. I'd enjoy an ale with either or both of them. :glugglug: We'd likely come to find that these guys just wish to someday become normal and free.

I especially like Prince Philip :1orglaugh He's a riot !

I wonder what is his kill ratio and how a good shot he is.
Pat Tillman (well known nfl player) was at least a real hero because he involved himself in the US Army as a volunteer, he was unfortunately killed in action in Afghanistan. I wonder what would happen if the Prince got wounded by some 7.62*39 bullet shot by the talibans. A brave man fights till his last last breath and knows his limitations.

So Pat Tillman is a hero because he went there and died, but Harry isn't because he never got shot?

The truth is Pat Tillman hero or not was killed by his own comrades(americans) possibly delibertly. And it is a major disgrace that the US Army and govt. consistently lied and destroyed evidence in order to cover it up and use his death for propaganda purposes. Its all right here in the wik link on him.

And on the prince and his poor life and not being able to be normal.I have an idea for him and the rest of his royal relatives, give it up!Step down as queen, announce your not interested in being Kings and then eventually you would just be a regular rich family and not as high profile and could lead more normal lives.

No because Pat Tillman didn't asked any favor treatment when he volunteered for the army, the prince Harry seems to benefit from specific treatment and I haven't heard of him going in dangerous combat zones.
The fact that Tillman was murdered by members of his own army is just revolting.

Do you not have presidential families, ie the bushes and possibly clintons. Are they not born priviledged? of course they are. If your country has a royal family or not there are still plenty of people born to positions they do not deserve.

I say well done to him though, to say he's not in danger is a joke. The whole place is dangerous.

I do have to apologize to my Brit friends on the board. I realize their view on Royals nobly performing military service is not what we are used to in the states. I think their views on Prince Harry are more accurate than my own.

G.W. of course was in the air National Guard during Vietnam which was typical of a lot of draft age kids from wealth, receiving home service or a student deferment. He didn't even show up for training as is known.

Harry probably didn't ask for special treatment, the special treatment was most likely just given to him. Just like when he tried to fight in Iraq the first time round, others made the choice for him not to go against his own will.

Do you think sending him into a danger zone is safe for the people around him?

A Prince is more of a target than an NFL player.

Today the paper sensationalised his killing of 30 taliban!

.....by calling in an airstrike. Kudos to the pilot for dropping the bombs, Ive said it once and I'll say it again, Ill take notice of his efforts in war when he comes home in a body bag.

Wonder how he feels though ditching the nazi uniform for desert camo, does the heart of a faschist still burn within?

All seriousness though, I pity the poor guys standing next to this "royal" bullet magnet, fighting for your country or anothers in this case shouldnt consist of baby sitting duty!

It's good to be the king...
My opinion hasn't changed about Harry since it was first mooted he might go to Iraq.
He's damned if he does - he damned if he doesn't.

What naffs me off is the "isn't he brave?" attitude in the press. Yes he's brave, but so are several thousand other Brit soldiers, imo....

Sorry - I'm a bit peeved tonight (work ruined my plans for a night on the tiles, so here I am.....:( )
