Will you buy an Ouya when its released ??

Considering I don't own a tablet which I would have basically hooked it up to my TV already and bought some no name controller for it. I thought this would be a cheap alternative to use mainly as a streaming media center with social capabilities like whats app and msnger and to play emulator games from NES and so forth all on one screen.

Gaming wise I don't see it ever getting Halo or Gran Turismo franchises. But im sure a few companies will make AAA games for it just like they did for OnLive, which is also supported on Ouya now.

One key feature I thought was cool is that its fully hackable and doesn't void warranty.

Specifications:
• Tegra3 quad-core processor
•1GB RAM
•8GB of internal flash storage
•HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD
•WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
•Bluetooth LE 4.0
•USB 2.0 (one)
•Wireless controller with standard controls (two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button), a touchpad
•Android 4.0
•ETHERNET! (Announced by Muffi 7/18)

Doesn't seem like much for specs by the time this is released. I'm sure PS4 and Xbox720 will have nearly double the power.

I haven't heard of this until now. Only $99? I'll try it out for that price. OnLive will be there at launch. Woop. I'm not one for modding or developing though.

I'm still debating on the $99. OnLive for me doesn't work out due to monthly bandwidth caps so Im not thrilled for that part but its good to see options.
This was the first time I heard of kickstarter programs too so not sure they always get started. From the looks of it they are well over their goal so should get started.

This sounds very interesting... I will probably get one to see how it works :) So yeah, I'll be the kind of person that will open it up and examine it and makin modifications :)
First thins I plan on doing is to see if I can get my android phone to be used as a controller too :)

Gotta be honest,I don't think that thing will ever see the light of day.

Yes alot of people have doughts it will too from what Ive read, but if anything it will launch and turn out to be 4th(last) in the next gen console wars against M$, Sony and Nintendo.

Ouya to release to console every year.

Although the price is cheap at $99. I dont like the idea of knowing I just spent $99 and then a year later I will be donig so again just stay fresh. A trade in program for discounts should be done for this.

"company will upgrade the system on an annual basis, taking advantage of faster and more powerful processors, all the while maintaining its $99 price point. Due to its Android-based OS, Uhrman assures that each new console will preserve backwards compatibility, though obviously older consoles may be unable to run more advanced 3D titles as time goes on."

I dont see the problem tbh... Remember: OUYA is based on 'open source'
Meaning, in my book and as far as I understood from reading and divign into Ouya, I have the ability to modify the hardware (and software!) to my own content. Do I want a faster processer? Then I can get it. More memory? Other videocard? Updated Android OS? My own bells and whistles, like XBox controller support - oh wait, its there already, or even connecting to it usng my nexsu 7 als input device... All possible given investment in mostly time (waiting for someone to do it or diy) and/or money.

It beats Xbox/PS/Wii and especially the new xbox or new psX who seem to be less and less catering to allow second hand games.

I really debated buying this when it was on kickstarter. I probably will get one. I just hope developers keep making games for it. Looks really cool.

I think a big part of the Ouya's problems it that a lot of people buy consoles now expressly so they don't have to do that. For one thing once somebody spends that on upgrades that $99 console is suddenly a lot more than $99. It defeats the purpose of people buying it because it's cheaper. Another thing, and also why a lot of people don't like PCs either, is because when they get a game they want to put it into the machine and have it work without wondering if they have things set up or if it's good enough to handle it. A lot of people don't like messing around with it.

Now delayed to June 25th.

Not sure why exactly, either was controller defect or just trying to get more units on store shelves by launch day, or both.
