The gunman who opened fire at an Oregon community college was forcing people to stand up and state their religion before he began blasting away at them, survivors said Thursday.

A woman who claimed to have a grandmother inside a writing class in Snyder Hall, where a portion the massacre unfolded, described the scene in a tweet.

“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. My grandma just got to my house, and she was in the room. She wasn’t shot, but she is very upset.

Not a peep of the alleged "hate" angle. Now imagine if the gunman had targeted a different group.

And this community college was a declared "gun free" zone which meant everyone in it were sitting ducks.

Umpqua Community College was not a gun free zone. A 2011, state court decision prohibited public colleges from banning guns on campus. The decision stemmed from a suit filed by the Oregon Firearm Education Foundation, a gun rights group. There was an effort to pass a new law to reinstate the ability of public colleges to ban guns. That measure was defeated by gun rights advocates.

The student code of conduct bans guns "without written authorization." Under Oregon law, the university could not ban people with a valid concealed carry license from bringing their weapons on campus. (They could ban gun from various buildings and facilities.)

“Possession, use, or threatened use of firearms (including but not limited to BB guns, air guns, water pistols, and paint guns) ammunition, explosives, dangerous chemicals, or any other objects as weapons on college property, except as expressly authorized by law or college regulations, is prohibited.

Possession of knives with a blade longer than 4” is prohibited.

Brandishing weapons is prohibited.

Misuse of personal defensive weapons – e.g., pepper spray, etc. is prohibited. The owner is responsible and accountable for any misuse of these devices.”

And he earnestly stated that simple laws could have prevented this incident without specifying what laws could have prevented this incident. This man doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.

An you're gonna base your opinion on the testimony of 1 person who claims to have a grand mother inside the campus ? It's all it takes to convince you ? I remember of you being much more difficult to convince on other issues...

The gunman didnt target christians at all. he asked if they wre christian and those that said they were he said this will be over fast and you'll be in a better place. those who said no he punished with pain. he saw it as showing mercy to the christians. he was a conservative person according to his blog posts and was spiritual but no specifically of denomination. fox news was saying he was targeting christians but now that we actually have information it shows he wasnt.

Most ideologically driven president of my lifetime to the point he looks foolish. Let's assume that a gun law would have stopped this, what law besides completely banning firearms would have? The illegal that shot Kate Steinle was banned from legally purchasing a firearm, yet he still got one.

Or that's what he wants everyone to think. Perhaps Mr. Mercer, in reality a devout Christian enraged by what he perceived as Christian persecution and marginalization in America, undertook his grisly business as a means demonstrating that Christians are under attack in America and views those he killed as a sacrifices to the greater good. Now that he has torn back the curtain and the reality of Christian life in America is self-evident to even the most skeptical observer, politicians will have no choice but to enact sweeping legislation to combat it. He constructed his online profile to make him appear to be more left-leaning and left the conservative Republican part in because he knew it would be seized upon as being out of place and dismissed when, in fact, it is the only accurate part. He probably even faked his own death and is now living in Alaska. He has a remote cabin in the mountains and will only venture into town once a month to re-provision and overhear the townspeople talk about how the country is finally getting back on the right track after all the efforts taken to combat the inhumane treatment of Christians. He will live out his days as a hermit, content that his actions saved the country from certain ruin though forever haunted by what he had to do to bring it about.

As I read over that now it does seem pretty far-fetched. Oh well. Personally, I think this happened because he was a non-drinker. Never trust those people.

The same logic could be used to explain the actions of Muslims. The bottom line is that he is a murderer. The actions are what we take into account. None of the people that commit these acts are what they portray themselves to be. It is only after they are gone do we know what they really were.

The one who has won the peace Nobel prize and has bombed Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya and Syria in 6 years and has brought chaos in Ukraine, Tunisia and Egypt and is the main responsible for the mass migration of radical Muslims in Europe? That guy is a black genius. He certainly knows what he is saying and doing. I suggest that Americans make an exception to the constitution and vote him for another term or five. Maybe in the meantime he'll change gender so the dream of politically correct people can come true and deliver, after the well needed first black American president, also a well needed first female American president, a well needed first black female American president and a well needed first transgender American president. Slurp!
