Let's say you get on average 20 MPG, and drive 20,000 miles per year. That's 1000 gallons times 3.80 =
3,800 dollars.
A tune up can be about 50-100$.
A mis-firing spark plug will **** your miles-per-gallon by more than just 1 or 2. A four cylinder engine.. if one out of four of those goes bad or isnt firing at full efficiency you can lose how much? Yeah. 25% of your total power. One outta four.
An air filter, oil change and all the rest of it can bring 15 MPG up to 20 pretty quickly. Driving a bit more 'intelligently' helps more than just 2 or 3 %, you know how MPG can vary on highways and city streets. But enough of my common sense.. the loss of 3% from 3800$ is only 114 bucks, which.. hey! That covers the cost of a tune up!
I wonder if I never got that tuneup and my MPG fell from 20 to 18, though..
20,000 miles divided by 18 MPG times 3.8$ per gallon = 4,222$ spent on gas.
A full 400$ more spent on gas because people dont realize how much gas they're screwing themselves out of by driving too fast, too wild, or too much on city streets. It's never just 2-3% that you get back from a tuneup, and we're not all driving top of the line vehicles. Driving an old piece'o'**** like most of us are, six cylinders or more, hot or cold weather, all that bullshit adds into the picture.
Someone gives you some perfect instructions like GIVE YOUR CAR A TUNEUP, CHECK THE TIRES AND DRIVE BETTER and you're complaining about a nickel's worth of free advice? Bah. Keep driving, keep paying.
Americans used to be able to solve their own problems instead of calling somebody with common sense a moron.

I have been tinkering with cars and working on them longer than you have been alive.
Supporting ******* babies that have survived an abortion IS EVIL. Making statements like airing up your tires (and the comments about adding slightly MORE pressure) and it will be like gas prices never changed IS moronic.
When you over inflate a tire, ESPECIALLY in hot weather you risk catastrophic tire failure. Tire pressures printed on a tire are HOT pressure, so that you DON'T over inflate them. The other part of that equation is that you wear the tires faster if they are overinflated, which causes you to have to REPLACE THEM. Each tire you see on the average vehicle requires 7-9 quarts of oil to produce, SO you overinflate your tires, you actually USE MORE FRIGGIN OIL.
Tune ups. Most modern vehicles use PLATINUM Plugs, and at 60 thousand miles on my truck, there is no reason TO put plugs in at this point, FOLLOWING THE FACTORY RECOMMENDATIONS, the truck is not due plug replacement for 40 thousand more miles.
As for MY vehicles, whether my TRUCK or my Hot Rod, they get maintainence religiously. I use a synthetic blend oil in my vehicles for better efficiency, changed every 3500 miles. I keep the tires rotated and balanced and inflated to PROPER pressures the way they SHOULD be.
I also use High flow EFFICIENT Air filters and oil filters in my vehicles.
The fact of the matter is this, I know what I am talking about and have the experience to back it up.
If you are driving an older car and you fail to keep it maintained that is your fault, but the steps he was talking about are stupid, his statements about the amount of difference this would make are ridiculous. He said it would be like dropping the gas prices. In a perfect world it might make a couple percent difference.
Some people say they can't afford to keep their vehicle maintained, well they still can't just the chosen one says they should!
Driving too much on city streets??? Well exactly how do you recommend people get to work? Sorry but the world doesn't bend to meet you.
And NO we DON'T ALL have access to PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Some of us DON'T live in a city.
There have been countless statements by obama that makes me believe he is an idiot and a moron and he is TROUBLE. NOBODY that actually supports this guy can EVER accuse Bush of being stupid again, if this guy isn't in front of a cue card or teleprompter, he can't form a coherent thought!
He recently had a 40 minute press conference, nearly 1/4 of that time (over EIGHT MINUTES) consisted of "Uh, Uh, uh, uh, um, um".
And the government doesn't pay ANY damn bills for me. I work my ass off to have what I have and one of the biggest problems I see in my work is so many people of the current generation that have NO work ethic, and whine about anything they have to do and want everything handed to them.
People who work hard ( I have TWO jobs and work well over 50 hours a week) foot the bill for them.
Now you have the chosen one that has said he is gonna kick up taxes and repeal tax cuts. HE"S AN IDIOT. There has NEVER EVER been a country that has taxed itself to prosperity. There was just a big boost to the economy when people got their Tax Rebate checks. Yet these people are too stupid to see this. He is gonna raise taxes, but he wants to make the oil companies give us a check as a "windfall Profits tax". He's an idiot, that is stupid and makes no sense.
It is also a PIPE DREAM, he has NO authority to take ANY money form a private company. If he does find some way to do that, all it will do is RAISE prices, because you are gonna pay that right back with higher gas prices, along with higher prices on EVERYTHING ELSE.
DAMN you would think people would have learned something this summer, but I guess people are just burying their head in the sand and believing everything the chosen one says.
I've said it before and I will say it again, this country needs a damn civics class.
I wish there was some way to stop the liberal indoctrination going on in the public school system. They are turning out a bunch of people who have no CLUE what the world is really like.
