Nortons anti-virus sucks

So I get a virus on my supposedly protected machine. Norton tells me they can fix it but it will cost me an extra 100.00 to do it. They can kiss my ass before I shell out yet even more cash for their worthless product.

I have Spyhunter, McAfee, and some of the built in stuff running all simultaneously.

I've never heard good things about Norton, though I'm certain it has worked just fine for some people.

H

EDIT- oh, and I run spybot- search and destroy about every 3rd day.

All I can recommend is saving all the files you need on an external hard drive. After you've done that wipe your entire computer and reset it like brand new. It will be faster in most cases. Hopefully the virus doesn't affect anything you save.

If you can just wipe out everything and reset it.

FYI - I have no anti - virus programs or anything on my computer. I just clean it all the time manually. I prefer it this way though, because it allows for top notch performance.

Get Trend Micro Internet Security. I haven't had anything even approaching a virus since I started using it.

This website does frequent testing of all the anti virus programs and scores them.

Here is the page with the latest rankings:

Norton and McAfee have always ranked poorly. There's a half dozen better free ones.

Online Armor Personal Firewall 3.0.0.190 and Outpost Security Suite Pro 2009 6.5.2514.381.0685 have the highest scores in the latest testing.

The best free one is Comodo Internet Security 3.5.55810.432.

Norton is a piece of shit. It is more fucking hassle than it's worth. Anyone in the know, knows not to go with Norton. There are anti-virus programmes out there that do what Norton claims to do, and they do it better.

I have heard nothing but good things from people that use: Kaspersky.

It is cheaper than Norton as well. It costs about 10 pounds [UK currency] from PC World, affordable, and reliable as well. It's fully updateable and everything. The wisemans choice.

norton sucks balls.

I don't like Norton. I've never had a problem with McAfee though. It catches viruses the second they try and install themselves onto my computer.

Ok, so I read all the responses to this thread. What did I learn? All anti-virus software sucks, it's all pretty much a roll of the dice, at least it seems that way. I had McAfee for about 2 years since I got my computer, but I recently switched to Norton because I saw it had very good reviews on CNET. I've noticed that Norton has actually picked off a few threats that were trying to attack my computer, as opposed to McAfee that didn't pick up a single threat for the entire time that I had it even though I obviously checked out a fair share of porn sites :D.

The whole idea of antivirus is ancient. The browser should be able to stop bad code/bad downloads when it happens. The OS should ask whether or not to install it when appropriate. Not every-last-fucking-executable like Win Vista... but when actually situation-appropriate. Were you browsing download.com and felt like installing WinRAR? Or were you looking for tits on spankit.net/viral/killthedickbeaters12.23/?
