No Electricity...What do you do?

Someone destroyed the transformer in my neighborhood, and we have been without power since early this morning until now. I was bored out of my mind. I can't leave the house for any long distances. I can't drive. No air-conditioning. We have electric ranges so no cooking. No tv, radio or microwave. NO COMPUTER!!! What the hell did people do before electricity?

People always get along well when thrown into a bad situation.

When this happens I usually read a book or get on the telephone. But you're so right; comparatively speaking it does create MAJOR sensory deprivation.

(now in the digital age its so much better. The pages don't stick together and nothing)

I was in the hospital for 3+ months and had gotten used doing absolutely nothing for days at a time. But once you start doing stuff again, it's hard not being able to. I might invest in a back-up generator.

I was less than a mile from a house that was leveled by a tornado my first day of 6th grade! Without power for 3 days straight in the middle of august! We had no choice but to sweat it out! :thumbsup:

Yeah that sucks it happen to me the other day I was posting and boom it was out. but it was only out for a 1hr so I was lucky it was not out that long. I just look at the window till it came back on.

In the summer it's not too bad. But when it's the middle of January or February here it's usually go over to a friend's house who has power. The option of nutting up,throwing on a couple layers of clothes, and crawling in bed is available.

If it's dark outside I will go to bed, as grouping around in the dark isn't to fun. If there's daylight outside I will go out and find some work that is almost certainly there that needs to be done around the yard.

I never had a problem like that. In Germany must happen a lot before
a whole neighborhood is without power.
I dont know what I would do. I guess I would go to sleep.

once the power went out on me when I was in the shower and I was all soapy, and I dropped the damned bar of soap
