I don't see too many people who can admit that. If it pisses you off so much switch teams. A friend of mine was a die hard leafs fan for years and got tired of the money grubbing asshole known as Richard Peddie and switched to being a Sharks Fan. As long as that greedy bastard is in charge, the leafs will always be about the money. Lure in a few decent players here and there and surround them with garbage so they cant go anywhere and accomplish anything.
Switch teams? That's blasphemy. The Leafs will get their act together. And when they do win, can you imagine the feeling the fans will have? It'll be like getting blown by Jenna Haze, Mia Rose and Nina Hartley 24/7.
And by "Maybe next year." do you mean "Perhaps when you get your fucking heads out of your asses and realise that you may sell tickets, but you're one of the absofuckinglutely worst teams in the league, and if you don't change that, you'll be nothing more than fodder for jokes about failure"?
Because then you'd be right. Fucking laughable team accomplishing nothing but selling tickets.
Dear Toronto Maple Leafs,
I am a life-long fan. You are reprehensible. Shit team for decades, no changes made. Do you base everything on how many tickets you sell, and base nothing on how much you're winning?
Oh, it's the money? nothing but the money? You don't care at all about the fans?
I knew it.
Fuck you.
I guarantee they make playoffs next year.
They obviously haven't been a "shit team for decades" since they were in the playoffs almost every year in the '90s, including a division win and a conference finals appearance. In fact, it wasn't even until '05-06 (the year after the lockout) that they started missing playoffs every year. Up until then, they hadn't missed playoffs for more than two consecutive seasons since they were the Toronto St. Patricks back in the '20s and the only teams to "make playoffs" then were the two teams that played for the Cup.
I know you're a Leafs fan and nothing less than winning the Cup will satisfy you (and you're probably frustrated with over forty years of Stanley Cup-winning impotence), but not winning the Cup doesn't make you a "shit team" in any sense. If you make the playoffs regularly then you're pretty good, actually. They've been a "shit team" for the past five years, no doubt, but saying that they have been for decades is silly hyperbole.
P.S. As an Oilers fan, I know what it's like to have to put up with being a fan of a "shit team," I really do. But I see a bright future for the Oilers with all of their young talent and prospects. The Leafs are in a similar situation. They have a tonne of great young talent, such as Grabovski, Kulemin, Kessel, MacArthur, Bozak, Phaneuf, Schenn, and last, but certainly not least, Optimus Reim (i.e. James Reimer). You should be thrilled when looking at the Leafs' future. Don't be such a jaded fan, if you love your team, try to see the positive side.
You are, of course, right on many counts. I will maintain, however, that it has been decades since the management of that team has cared about anything but profit.
There needs to be a restructuring for the Leafs, and it needs to start at the highest levels of management. Everything about the team needs to be fixed, at this point.
Some day they'll be fine again - I don't need them to win the cup all the time to make me happy. Yes, it has been far too long since they've won, but look at the state of things.
And I don't see how you can possibly guarantee they make the playoffs next year.
Yeah, I agree with you on the issues with team management. The organization isn't run well and Burke made some atrocious moves in the last few years. Giguere was a bad acquisition, and as good as Phil Kessel is, the Leafs gave up way too much in that deal. (And there was also Tuukka Rask for Andrew Raycroft, but that wasn't Burke, I believe).
You're right, I probably shouldn't say that I guarantee they make playoffs. That's a little too confident for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in six straight seasons. However, I do think that they will make the playoffs next season, so I guess I'll just rephrase my statement by saying that I bet you they make playoffs next year.
if Tampa wins today and Washington beats Carolina in regulation, Tampa will clinch a playoff spot.
Imagine if Toronoto actually made it into the playoffs.
Canucks are going to clinch the West tonight against the Predators. Count on it. I don't know about their playoff chances given all the injuries to their defence, but there isn't a single team in the West that can face the Canucks in a best-of-seven.
Weren't you just lamenting a day ago that Tampa was destined to miss the playoffs?
Wanna explain to me why you're such a staunch Canucks guy when you loathe the Alberta teams and, as far as I know, can't stand any of the teams east of you?![]()
after they had 1 win in 10 games? yes i was.
Yeah, I got that, but this is the part that makes no sense: you say they are not going to make the playoffs, but then they literally win one game and the game afterwards you are saying they can clinch a playoff spot. It makes no sense. :dunno:
Easily explained, my friend...
1. I am a fan of a Canadian hockey team. Therefore, I automatically have to hate the other five teams in Canada. You will NEVER find someone in Canada who is a Flames fan and also likes the Canucks.
2. Alberta sucks, and therefore its sports teams do too.
3. As an extension of #2, I have only met a handful of people from Alberta who I can say I actually got along with. I find most Albertans (especially those from Calgary) to be very stuck up, condensending, annoying and generally ignorant. "Oooo, you have oil? That's cool, but you're still a pimple on the ass of Canada," is what I usually say to them. I should say I can actually stand people from Edmonton, so I do not nearly hate the Oilers as much as I do other teams; I just don't like them because they are not the Canucks.
4. Again, Alberta sucks.

Okay, sooooo, judging from your posts, that piece you wrote about hockey in Manitoba, your closeted (or not so closeted) support of the Coyotes, I'm guessing you were a Jets fan?
If I remember correctly I got to see them at the Met before the Stars left. I actually grew kind of fond of them considering they were kind of like our only neighbor in the NHL community. Of course, we miss everything when it's gone. For the thousandth time, I will reiterate and I think speak for all of us when I say we would like another team in Manitoba, despite how lacking of nightlife and recreational life Winnipeg really is
after they had 1 win in 10 games? yes i was.
useless Capitals. all you had to do was not give Carolina a point and Tampa could clinch with a win. just makes Lightning fans hate you more
tomorrow i will be a Habs fan. a Montreal win over Carolina clinches a playoff spot for Tampa...i believe.
