I have to say I am glad to see nathan Horton out of of Florida he kills the Lightning

The only important thing to me is that Halak is gone to the western conference so The Lightning are gonna face Carey Price when they play Montreal and he is usually not very good against Tampa. As for Horton , he is still going to play us 4 times instead of 6 so he's still going to be annoying.

the Lightning are doing something under Steve Yzerman that they haven't done under the past couple of GMs, keeping quiet. you know they're working on things but we've heard nothing. it's a nice change of pace.

Ever since that 13-game losing streak (or whatever it was) I've been wondering if the Oilers were going to fire him. Kind of dissapointed that Quinn never seemed to gel in Edmonton; he was a great coach in Vancouver and Toronto. I don't think Renney will be much of an improvement, given his past with the Rangers. Fairly decent seasons followed by playoff futility.

In the latest trade rumours, the word going around here is that Tim Thomas may be up on the auction block, but who would want a 35-36 yr old goalie with a 4-5 million contract???

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks are cutting ties with goaltender Evgeni Nabokov.

General manager Doug Wilson said Tuesday the team has told Nabokov he will not be offered a contract when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next month.

Nabokov has been one of the top goalies in the league the past few years, winning an NHL-best 131 games over the past three seasons. He has a 293-215-29 record in 10 seasons with the Sharks, with a 2.39 goals against average. He helped the Sharks reach the Western Conference final this year, where they were swept by Chicago.

Wilson says he would like to sign the team's other unrestricted free agents, including leading goal-scorer Patrick Marleau.

wow. i'd be interested to see if Stevie Y can work his magic with Nabokov and bring him to TB for a good price. probably won't happen, but then again i didn't think Steve Yzerman would be named GM...

Nobokov is going to go to Washington and everyone is going to say the team is just adding another choker even though that move would give Washington probably the best starting lineup in hockey today.

Yeah it's nice to finally having people who know what they are doing in place.

Nabokov is washed up, proven by both his olympic and playoff performance.

4 seasons in a row with 40+ wins. i wouldn't call that washed up.

also, Kurtis Foster has apparently expressed interest in re-signing with the Lightning. hopefully we'll offer him a contract that's satisfactory to him.

That was Sather's love affair with over the hill superstars. There was no cohesion with that team. Too many Super Egos.

One of the greatest winners of his generation, Scott Niedermayer, has retired. If a defenceman with a massive ego were to write out a list of goals they'd like to accomplish they probably wouldn't even include all of the things that Niedermayer did accomplish. The guy has received every honour that could possibly be bestowed on a defenceman and will go down as one of the top five greatest defencemen of all time. He didn't have his best season with the Ducks this past year, but he does go out on a high note anyway, having won an Olympic gold (his second!) in his home province of B.C. I, and the NHL, will miss seeing him man the point as well as any defenceman ever has.
