NHL '09/'10 Season Thread

the lighting are playing Ottawa in a expedition games here in Regina, I'm going to go see them.

Heatley to Edmonton for Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Laroslav Smid.

Dany Heatley has been one of my favourite players for a long time and I'm thrilled that he's going to be an Oiler. I can really see he and Ales Hemsky playing really well together as Hemsky is a brilliant playmaker and has needed a competent goal-scorer to complement his skills for a long time now and Heatley could be that guy for him.

Any Oilers fan out there knows that Penner had to go, as good as many people think he is and expect him to be, it wasn't going to happen for him in Edmonton, just like it wasn't going to happen for Joffrey Lupul in Edmonton either; the pressure in Edmonton can be really hard for some guys to deal with (and many young Oilers party way too much, which always causes a drastic drop in on-ice success).

I, for one, couldn't stand watching Penner play for the Oilers; he was utterly atrocious for them and I wanted he, and Tom Gilbert as well, to break their legs so that they couldn't play for the Oilers any more. Seeing Penner go feels good.

However, trading Cogliano and Smid isn't quite such a good feeling. I really like both those players, Cogliano as a solid all-around player who can play consistently well, and Smid as a really good skating defenceman who can handle the puck and skate very well, although he's not adept at putting the puck in the net (no goals the last two seasons) or setting up goals either, but that wasn't his role, so I still liked him a lot as a player.

It's worth it to trade those guys in order to acquire a player the calibre of Heatley though, so all in all, I'm quite pleased.

NHL live says Mattias Ohlund to Tampa Bay :nanner:

apparently it's a 7 year 3.5 million deal (Bob Mackenzie reports that)

The Lightning should be thinking about adding Hedman and a decent Swedish D-man <Mattias Ohlund is available> to mentor the kid. Those two alone could improve the backend a bunch. Play the hell out of Hedman like LA or TO did with Doughty & Schenn last season.

Yes I used to work at the Psychic Friends Network.:glugglug:

I've got lots of family down in Tampa so they're my 2nd favorite team and I follow them closely. I love going to games down there.

Lets just hope this cash being tossed around isn't because Vinny is getting dealt.

Vinny's no-trade clause went into effect today. he has stated that he doesn't want to leave TB. Lecavalier is going nowhere.

i'd be more concerned about St. Louis being dealt

now we have JBo for sure!!! great deal, great D, great GM!!!
will be interesting to see if we get a trede with langkow involved for some cap space...

although i dont really like the lightning (thanks for 2004 ) i think they did a heck of job so far! their D looks pretty impressive now, good thing for hedman he´s got ohlung next to him.

christensen signs 1yr deal with anaheim, and roloson received a 1yr 3Mio offer from edmonton. not sure if he signed yet.

i think the rangers made a good deal there, too. gomez is good, but they got some good future players and higgins. plus, they have some cap space now, maybe looking for gaborik... would be a nice fit with drury

is the hossa-to-chicago deal done? would be great, but that buts some question-marks on havlat...

oh yeah, i got one more thing to say:
yeeeeeeeeeeeah, free-agency is underway folks! i love this time :thefinger

You think<saracasm>? Someone from the Rangers must have slipped Gainey GHB to take that monster contract that Gomez has.
