NFL - Spying costs the New England Patriots $750,000 and draft picks

so the first rd of the nfl draft will have 31 picks... that's the stupidest shit i've heard in a while. This whole punishment is stupid.

This means that some college kid who worked hard enough to be considered for the draft won't get in because the NFL is punishing the Patriots for stealing signs.

Technically that could happen, but remember that the person that might miss out because of this is the person that would probably be "Mr. Irrelevant" in the seventh round. The same thing could be said for the time when the NFL cut down the number of rounds in the draft from where they had ridiculous amounts before to just seven. An important fact is that if that person was good enough he will probably sign on to a team anyhow. In fact in a lot of ways being among the best undrafted rookies is better than being in the last round of the draft. They have just as much as a good a chance that they will catch on somewhere, and they can pick and choose the team they want to go to unlike somebody that's drafted. It's not like a ton of seventh rounders end up signing anyhow. There's a ton of them that are released never to make it each year. You don't get a contract and the money just because you’re drafted. The agents and teams negotiate that afterwards. Being drafted just mean the team has exclusive rights to sign you for that year.

Some good points - IMO.

i understand what you're saying but this is not about how relevant the player is, it's the fact that he won't get a chance to prove himself on whatever team he gets drafted. Plus remember a dude named T.J. Houshmanzadeh... let's say he never got his shot on the bengals or Marques Colston would've never got his shot on the Saints. You never know

they deserve it.

they're already the favorite to win the superbowl, and they pull something low like this....it has definitely tarnished their "dynasty" in my eyes...

GO STEELERS!!!!!

That would be incredibly unfair to the other 30 teams that had nothing to do with this if the Jets got that kind of advantage over them....
Or they could have called the game forfeit and simply awarded the Jets the win while doing what they did now for a punishment and putting the people involved on lifetime probation with much more serious consequences if ever caught in shady actions again.

I actually came up with my suggestion because I thought just giving the game to the Jets would have been seen as too drastic.

:1orglaugh you may as well stop watching football

if you are naiive enough to believe that this is the first time and the first team to do steal signs/info, you should stop investing your time/money in the nfl.
