Need Help Starting Life

Living in SF is retardedly expensive, but not all the Bay Area is expensive. Check out in the boondocks (Pittsburg, Antioch, Oakley, and Brentwood). Housing isn't that bad in the area, especially if you're just looking for a roommate. BART and highway 4 are a bitch, but housing is cheaper.

What kind of job are you looking for? If you're looking for full time, benefits, and a high hourly rate off the bat, forget it. Try some shitty fast food or retail job. Minimum wage in SF is over $10 bucks an hour now. Even if you can only find something for 20 hours a week, that's still about $800 a month. Check Starbucks in SF. The one on 4th and Howard, across the street from the Metreon, had a now hiring sign on the window yesterday. The good thing about Starbucks is that you get your base pay, plus tips, and you get medical benefits when you work at least 20 hours a week.

Good luck.

People act like working full time and going to school full time is impossible. GTFO you lazy fucks. It's 4 years of your life. Suck it up.

If I could find a full time job I would be more than glad and motivated to work my way through college. Due to this recession all I can find is the worst part time ever that only gives me 10 hours a week.

Quit blaming the recession. It's not as bad as people want to blame.

Fine, blame the overpopulation of SF or the fact that everyone in the surrounding cities works here for the higher pay. Either way, finding a job as become a nearly impossible task nowadays.

Come to Sf, spend all day filling out applications, and see how many call you back. A full time job would pull my ass out of this and I would kill for one.

To where? With what money? ...and stay where or with whom?

If there is nowhere to go to then whats there to complain about other than to just vent. There is no special place that you can go to that will rain money down upon you for doing a job that requires basic skills. I was in a situation similar and picked up and hauled ass to Texas of all places and worked my way into something pretty decent. Im not trying to be a dick just saying if the area is expensive and there is no jobs then time to move on to somewhere you can at least get a shitty job. As far as money yeah your going to need at least alittle of that to get further than the state line. Sell shit, thats how I made gas money to get out of town. Just my advice feel free to call me an asshole that doesnt understand your situation now.

Could you not get a loan or grant. The lonas agency here weren't strict about who they give it to and they didn't look into the financial background. But then again Uni if free here so if you get the grades, that's you in. I'm pretty sure the people in England get into uni and get a loan evven if they have a poor financial background, again though, i wouldn't know.

Failing that i would say you should join the army/marines/navy etc. When in training, they give you a place to stay. Or you could move to to new place where the houses and flats are a little cheaper

As you say, how can you move without money?. Do you have hostels in America?

If you can't find a job where you live just now, you really need to try harder or move away

I don't know what to do here, I'm stuck. 7 months ago, I graduated from highschool and moved back to my hometown from a household situation which is a novel in itself. Long story short: I was adopted, only for the check, completely disconnected. I moved back to my hometown across the country and in with my best friend and his family. Within a few weeks started dating his sister. We had a bad break up a little while later, but she is frowned upon among the commoners so I was allowed to stay. I've been here and have been looking for a job for 7 months. I couldn't start college this year because I simply have no money. I finally got a job but I only get like 400 a month, but the cheapest apartment here is 700. I'm really smart (2200< SAT score), I want to go to college. Only problem is my "mom" opened various accounts in my name during our poor, hateful times, thus starting me off with a horrible credit. Also, as you've probably guessed, my friend's family IS getting tired of me being here. 7 months is a long time. How the hell to I get out of this dilemma?

Tough situation. We all go through rough periods in our lives and this sounds like one for you. You're thinking it through and that is a good things.

As someone else posted try and find a place where you can share the rent with others. Find a job, even a low paying job. Get your but into school. Go to university. A community college if that is all you can afford, but don't stop at a 2 year degree. Now is the time to dig in and suffer a bit for the future.

This guy (OP) is really fucking whiny.
(and probably just lying about the whole thing to get attention)

Here's an answer: it's SF, right? Try your hand(/mouth/ass) at being a gay male prostitute!

Good luck!

I would echo MP's sentiments and advise you to consider a hitch in the military. You'll learn a skill and get veterans benefits that will enable you to go to school upon your discharge if your desire. It's also a great springboard to a possible government job and career if that's what you seek. Good luck young man.

I'm not saying ur a dick. I'm just saying, I moved back here because this is the only place I really know anyone. I would move, as you've suggested, but I simply don't know how to. I don't have anything to sell and no one to borrow from.

I'm sorry for coming of whiny but I'm just freaking out. College aside for now, the main point is: I need to get out Asap, but I don't make enough. I really don't wanna be homeless again. That's the way my life started out and I don't want to go back to that. (ironically my mother was a prostitute, though not gay)

Sounds like your awesome SAT scores are not translating into real-life intelligence! LOL!

Sorry you have a limited mental capacity.
Easier to just accepted your situation instead of fighting it.

Or ask your roommate and/or his hot sister if you can borrow bus fare to Texas.

I am a failure to the Korean side of my family
I am not trying to put you down man, but everytime people start tossing out ideas for you. There seems to be responses from you full of excuses and rejection. Listen our lives are all not roses and trust fund laziness. When my parents came to this country they had to take shit jobs, sleep on freinds floors, but they worked their asses off, and became citizens. Anyway what I am trying to say is that there is opportunity out there for you, but you got to just keep knocking and keep on keeping on. You seem like an intelligent person, have you thought about these trade schools? I know they advertise during afternoon television but they have satellite campuses all over the country. Not only do they teach you a trade like medical assistant, electrician, HVAC, truck driving, dental assitant, or IT work but those schools set you up with some job placement. Also they cost less, then your run of the mill university or community college. Here's the weird thing I have friends that spent shitloads of their parents money and took out student loans that they will be paying back from their graves. True they have degrees from College and Grad School and they are lucky to be punching buttons at a Barnes and Nobles cash register. Then I have friends that true weren't the brightest and partied a lot, never went to college, but picked up a skill or trade. They became carpenters, electricians, nurses, and paralegals. I don't know if this makes sense man, but opportunities are out there you just have to continuously knock on many various and at times odd doors, but eventually they open up.
