This is a misconception. The Lakers played well against the zone in all but game 3. Scoring over 100 points and shooting something like 54%. It was their lack of effort on D and their offensive boards that let that series go 6. Plus the Suns shot 50 more free throws during the series. That's almost 10 free points a game. I don't think the series was as close as it looked. However, Boston plays real D. The season series is 1-1. Both decided by 1 point. Kobe was out in the loss for L.A, and I believe KG was out in the loss for Boston. This ain't the 2008 Lakers. Nobody is getting bullied around by the Celtics this time. Artest ain't letting Pierce play like a Finals MVP. Rondo is going to give L.A fits, and I might have a heart attack or two, but we already know that.

My prediction??

You suckas know my prediction.

I got the Lakers in the Finals. I think the Celtics defense isn't really all that better than the Lakers. The Lakers were playing the Suns, while the Celtics D was actually porous at times against Orlando, who were just missing decent looks and made bad decisions. Such as passing Vince Carter the ball. Ima say Lakers in 6. I think Gasol will go off, Pierce will struggle, and Rondo will start (or continue?) taking too many shots.

So I feel the urge to ask you, what would you think of a basketball game take place in a location like this?

Lakers aren't going to have an easy road to the Championship, but I think they can pull it off in 6. The key, for my money, in this series will be Derek Fisher and where he matches up on the defensive end of the floor. Who is guarding Rondo? He's way too fast for Fisher to cover over the course of a series. If the Lakers put Fisher on him, we're going to see Russell Westbrook all over again (but, this time with a far better supporting cast around him, that together are far more potent than just Kevin Durant), if they put Kobe on Rondo, then we have Fisher guarding Ray Allen, which isn't in the best interest of the Lakers either. Anyone aside from those two on Rondo just doesn't make any sense. Artest will match up with Pierce, and Odom, Gasol, Bynum will rotate through the bigs. Tough choices to make here. If they run some sort of switch and help zone against the Celtics, we're going to get this nonsense like we saw in the Suns series where Pau is 4 feet above the 3-point line guarding the point guard, meaning Fisher is God knows where guarding a 3, 4 or 5 creating an even worse mismatch. I think they're just going to have to play TOUGH man defense with Fisher on Rondo, sliding over to help when Rondo penetrates, and deny any type of pick and roll offense the Celtics may throw out there to combat it, as the Celtics are no where near as potent a P&R offense as the Suns were/are. Like I said, Lakers in 6.

Also, with Perkins having 6 T's this postseason, does anyone know what the rules are regarding his 7th as far as a suspension would be concerned? I know it would be a one game suspension, but does he get suspended immediately from the game he gets his 7th in, or do they let him finish out that game (assuming he doesn't get 2 in the same game) and suspend him for the following game? Either way, I say start Mbenga at the 5 in game 1, and 1st offensive trip down the floor for the Celtics take a really hard foul on Perkins and see if you can't get him to react and bait him into that 7th. Maybe a little underhanded of an idea, but hey, this is for a title...

My prediction for the Finals: The Lakers will have a tough time solving the Celtics' frontline defense, and their big man bench rotation. But the Celts have to find a way to guard The Steak without giving others--like Artest--a free ride. Also, LeBron will be watching the Finals from the Pleasure Room of some NBA owner, eating grapes and barbecued spareribs while getting blowjobs from a harem of misguided but well-proportioned porn starlets.

It'd go into effect after the game, game and season fouls are separate in nature, so yes he'd finish the game.

I should neg rep you for that!!

There is a lot of talk about who is going to guard Rondo. But the Celtics have a similar problem in who is going to guard Kobe. Pierce? That leaves Allen guarding Artest who is 4 inches and 50 lbs heavier. He'll just back Allen down and have his way. Allen will get torched by Kobe.

Both teams have some work to do figuring out the mismatches, and I like Phil Jacksons chances. ;)

Artest can guard anyone basically. He would do better on Rondo than DFish even though Rondo would run Artest all over the floor.

I see Artest taking Paul Pierce initially, and Kobe taking Rey Rey.

If Farmar and Fisher can't handle Rondo could Kobe take Rondo?

Artest said all along he came to LA to win a Championship and something tells me he's going to take his game to a new level scoring-wise...

Rock solid effort by the Lakers. Bit of a lapse the first three minutes of the 4th quarter but otherwise their intensity and activity were excellent.
They made the Celtics look slow tonight.

This is exactly the kind of series the Lakers got Artest for. Boston's going to try to intimidate Gasol and Odom. Artest has been pretty mellow all season long. Now he needs to step up and be an enforcer.

Gotta start off by saying, I was at the game last night, and the atmosphere was intense. I was sitting up in the rafters, blue-collar style, and there were some serious fans around me, with some serious dislike for the Celtics. Easily the best sports-related experience in my life, and I've been to a World Series as well as a Super Bowl. Awesome, awesome time!

LA looked more solid last night than I've seen them all season long. The Artest/Pierce doube T set the tone for the whole game. The Lakers came out tough and sustained that effort throughout the entire game. Scoring in the paint at will, sticking to running their offense and not shooting too may 3's (4-10 on the night 3pt FG) dominating on the glass and keeping Rondo and Ray Allen (and Garnett for the most part) relatively quiet, granted, Allen got into some foul trouble early but I still thought LA did a stellar job all around. Rondo looked like shit last night for the most part. He's a horrible free throw shooter, his mid range jumper is suspect at best and he was making some horrible decisions handling the ball. One play in specific where he had a clear path to the hoop and he decides to kick the ball out to Glen "If my eyes were any closer together, I'd be a cyclops" Davis who threw up a mess of a baseline 15-footer stood out to me as a really bad decision on Rondo's part, but as a Laker fan, I'll take bad Celtic decisions whenever they'd like to make them. Great game all around. Pau, with a "quiet" 23/14/3/3 (with 8 offensive rebounds, which is gigantic!), Kobe dropping his 12th 30 pt performance of this postseason, adding 7 rebs, and 6 ast. And even Ron Ron getting in on the offensive action dropping 15 (crucial) points, including some really clutch 3 balls, in the biggest game (thus far) of his career. I'm lovin' it!

I've got to say, as well, that to me Derek Fisher is pretty much the Derek Jeter of the NBA. Not a blow-your-socks-off superstar, but just a solid competitor. Especially in the playoffs, he has been there before, knows what to do, and gets it done when it comes down to crunch time. I know Fisher only had, what 8 or 9 points last night? But in the context of the game, they were all huge points, and came at the perfect moments to keep the momentum swaying in the Lakers favor.

I know its only one game, and that its going to be a LONG seris, but the 2-3-2 series setup really benefits the Lakers in this scenario, IMO, and all the Lakers have to do is keep up the toughness they showed last night, and play .500 basketball over the next 6 games, and they'll be back-to-back NBA champs! Sticking with my predicition, Lakers in 6!
