Nationalism

Nationalism is better than a European Union in My opinion. The "One World" idea is much more dangerous I think. In other words, the United Nations is much more corrupt and dangerous than any single nation.

I think of the term Patriot to mean one who is loyal and serving to one's country.

I think of Nationalist as patriotism turned fascist domestically, and/or generally as person that thinks of their national loyalty as being against other nations.

also just look at the root word. patri means ******, so I think of Patriotism as loyalty to the people and the community. Nationalism is loyalty to state and to the idea of a nation.

so like it's the same as "racial" pride versus racism. You can celebrate your racial identity and be proud of it, but when you view that as a characteristic that sets you apart from people of other races (instead of something that brings you together with people of your own) and most especially when it is the basis for negative feelings about others, then it is racism.

In fact, both of the two dual concepts are linked together, as they deal with personal identity and history and geographic location of people.

When I hear the word Nationalism, I take it to mean someone who is proud of there country but to an unhelathy or extreme measure where they will destroy a person of another nationality just because they are a different nationality.

just to the point: Stalin was not nationalist at all. Communism and nationalism are not compatible at all. Both of them were assholes, but they were different.

I disagree. Stalin was indeed a nationalist. His policies totally perverted true communism and Soviet Russia was a communist state in name only. Had **** Germany not invaded the USSR, Stalin would have continued down the path he was already on at the time....military conquest of neighboring nations and ruthless expansion of the Soviet empire. If that's not a nationalist, I don't know what is.

Expansionism and nationalism are two distinct concepts, so I wouldn't say proof of expansionism somehow constitutes proof of nationalism.

That said, as far as communists go, Stalin was definitely on the nationalistic side of the Communist Party in that he argued for 'socialism in one country' as opposed to the Trotskyist theory of 'permanent revolution'. Stalin wanted to strengthen the Soviet Union through rapid industrialisation and bureaucracy, while Trotsky was more faithful (but definitely not identical) to the earlier internationalist Marxist model.

There's no question that Stalin suppressed many ethnic and religious groups in the Soviet Union through russification, for what he described as their bourgeois nationalism.

before we go any further, for expediency, can we just use wikipedia's definition: Premium Link Upgrade ?
Nationalism is a term referring to doctrine[1] or political movement[2] that holds that a nation, usually defined in terms of ethnicity or culture, has the right to constitute an independent or autonomous political community based on a shared history and common destiny

at some point, Paradise Place is going to reveal why he has gathered us here, and i have a feeling we're all going to be sorry. . .

What immediately pops into your mental landscape when I mention the political and governmental concept of, 'Nationalism?'

I am not asking for subjective definitions - simply positive or negative thoughts on the political concept.

Namely, 'Nationalists,' and 'Nationalism?'

Of course, you can disagree. My statement is based on understanding of "nationalism" term as the idea of domintation and superiority of one nation upon the others. This is very important component, and it was completely different in the USSR with Stalin and in Germany under Hilters reign.
The class was the basis of soviet society. Not the nationality. Soviet governmet invested a lot of money in national socialistic republics (where popular majority were not russians) integrated in the USSR, it aslo was the policy of support for other socialistic countries, and modern russian nazis **** soviet leaders for that policy. Because, as a nationalists, they are sure that their country was exhausted by that destructive ideas of International (which was completely against National-Socialistic ideas of Nazis at Third Reigh) and instead of pulling off underdeveloped republics, rising their economies and promoting utopian ideas of all-nations-unity in communism, they should have worry about russian nation only. Nationalists want the nation to be at the first place, nation as a fundament for the whole system. Nation as the main criteria. By the way, Stalin was not russian, he was georgian. It might be interesting to know for you, that big amount of russian nationalists consider october revolution to be the biggest tragedy for the russian nation. many of them are monarchists. and they call all the things that communists had done a jew plot for abolishment and destruction of russians.
Nationality is always a common thread in their talks. And it never was important for communists as much, as a class was.

All nazis **** communists. Ultra left wing and ultra right wing can't be equal :2 cents:

What pops into my head are people waving flags and cheering for their country as if it were simply an athletic team. I'm not a fan.

I've noticed that nationalists tend to appreciate nationalism within their country and countrymen/women as gold-hearted "patriotism" but it nearly always is seen as dangerous when exhibited by people who happened to be born in some other country.

That's just a "first impressions" description....

nationalism is generally, people preferring things of their own country, their own people, their own race and that believe firmly that they are superior to others. It is also a policy of **** and despise against other nations with racist comments, characterizations and sometimes acknowledging ******.

Reminds me of a very brief time in my life were I was confused and insecure, and joined the BNP guys for a few months. Though I never harmed anyone and stuck mainly to grafitti, I can't stop hating myself for it.

It's the biggest thing I regret in my life, and damaged my self confidence in how ignorant I was. All Nationalists are ignorant, ****-filled looser cunts, more jealous of other races than looking down on them - racism is a denial of their insecurities. And I should know, I was one.

I had to go look up BNP as I was unaware of it being an american.Just read some at Wik,yeah that's an example of narrow minded bigoted nationalism for sure. They are basically british nazis.Glad to see you saw them for what they were Evil Hobo and got out,you are to be commended for that very much.Don't **** yourself for it, we all make mistakes and do things we regret. Many are not big enough to admit them so you are way ahead of many IMO.

Makes me think of Irish Republicans

Er, nm, I just realized your location is actually Ireland. That has a very different denotation in the US.

To me, nationalism is just another good idea that got carried to an extreme by people who can't think for themselves- like half of philosophy and religion. Having a degree of pride in where you come from is not inherently bad or good, but the technological advances of last few centuries (both in media and weapons) and especially since WW2 and the Cold War have taken the concept to a violent level.

Thanks very much bro, that really did make me feel so much better about myself. And it is true they are nothing but Nazis, we even painted Swaztikas as our sign everywhere back then.

Yeah, well put, Friday. People who get into AND get OUT of groups like that deserve our respect, for sure. Even more so when they can just say it was a mistake that they regret, in a straightforward, no-BS manner. We need so much more honesty like that in this day and age!

:glugglug::glugglug::glugglug: to both of ya!

I would say it's an attitude that's is negative towards foreign people living in your country

I would agree with that comment.

Last week here in the UK, it was revealed in a survey that almost half of the people who were asked, said that immigrants in the UK should be encouraged to leave. Assuming that the encouragement is financial, such a policy would be economic and fiscal lunacy. Paying out billions of pounds to say goodbye to millions of taxpayers and consumers is just crazy. I guess that those that support such a policy would be prepared to make up the difference with higher taxes.

On a recent TV programme, some British born young men complained that they were unemployed due to the foreigners who had come and taken the jobs. When they were offered one of the jobs done mainly by foreigners, picking butternut squash at a ****, they said no. One of the **** labourers, a Latvian, said that he could earn up to 2000 Pounds/USD 4000 a month if he was prepared to work the extra hours. A man who recruits staff to work on farms in the area said that he had only received approaches from 3 British born applicants for jobs in 2 years. If British people were prepared to do these jobs then the workers from Eastern Europe and elsewhere would not be needed.

I saw that, disgraceful. What would happen to the UK if these people left those lazy idiots wouldnt do it the country would be screwed.

I have no problem with immigrants if they are here legally and paying there own way.

Fuckers that are either ******* or just coming over here to claim benefits can take a running jump off the nearest building for all I care.
