Movie/tv remakes, the good, bad and future

Hollywood for the past several years now has made movie/TV remakes from the originals. Some, in my opinion are good, many bad. Sometimes I think Hollywood and the writers are running out of original ideas. Perhaps it is a money making thing. Like to know what other members think. Also, what remake would work today on the big screen/TV. Here's some of my choices:

GOOD: 3:10 To Yuma, The Untouchables, The Thing, In The Heat Of The Night, MASH, The Italian Job

BAD: Mission Impossible, King Kong, Assault On Precinct 13, The Wild Wild West, Bewitched, The Manchurian Candidate, Dracula(all of them) and worst of all The Honeymooners

FUTURE: The Birds, Moby Dick

I think there is already a thread for this somewhere but I'm not sure. Some of your examples seem to be remakes of movies or TV shows-into-movies. I agree on a few of your examples. For a couple of shitty movie remakes let me throw in:

--The Time Machine
--Planet Of The Apes
--The Longest Yard
--Rollerball

A couple of GOOD remakes are:

--The Bourne Identity
--East Of Eden(The TV miniseries)
--Of Mice And Men

I must be the only person who actually like the latest King Kong. It was a faithful but upgraded remake of the original. It was well-acted and interesting.

The Italian Job remake was awful!! As are all the remakes of Caine movies (Get Carter, Alfie, Sleuth) even though he has appeared in a couple of them.
Good remakes are few & far between, 99% of them are pointless but a couple of good ones are The Magnificent 7 (7 Samurai) & Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Bedtime Story)

BAD: Mission Impossible, King Kong...

Wow, really?

I'm a huge supporter of the "Don't Ever Remake A Classic" movement, but, dude...King Kong was one of the very few good remakes that has come out in the past 30 years or so. I think most people just say they don't like it because it was directed by Peter Jackson.

Oh, but I do agree with 3:10 To Yuma...that was a good one.

The classic 1965 film The Haunting was destroyed in a remake.

I think I'd probably get sick if I saw the remake of 12 Angry Men

I also understand Flight of the Phoenix was a complete joke.

Best:
The Fly
Starsky & Hutch
Barb Wire (well, it is a remake of Casablanca) :)

Worst:
Planet of the Apes
War of the Worlds
SWAT

Actually it wasn't half bad. Lemmon and Scott saved it. The original was better of course.

Little Shop of Horrors
The Departed
Cape Fear
Scarface
The Thing
King Kong '05
&
The Fly rank among the best.

House of Wax
Godzilla '98
Black Christmas
Psycho '98
&
Rollerball rank among some of the worst.

You guys know that there were two King Kong remakes right? King Kong (1976) and King Kong (2005).

the worst: hamlet 2. hamlet 1 was way better

Conspiracy...
They need to focus on new, original movies rather than rehash old movies and sitcoms.

It's old and I'm tired of it. Not many movies worth seeing any more.
