Vasquez hasn't pitched that bad this year. The Yankees don't give him much run support. That one kubel just hit off him went a fuckin mile though.

Yeah, but they need to get that monkey called NY off their back right now and that was a good start. I've always liked the Twins. Wouldn't mind seeing them go all the way. In fact it would be tragic if they don't eventually.

In practically any other division, the Jays would be number two or number three. But in the AL East they sit behind the Rays, Yankees and Red Sox. Christ.

no money certainly is part of the Jays problem. as is no fans to raise money/ the Jays used to draw 3+ million a year, now maybe 1 to 1.5 that's alot of lost revenue. plus players in Toronto get paid in US dollars, not as big a difference now but a few years ago it was. long term though there are some really good young players in their system, so they maybe be more competitive. problem is the AL East is a tough division for them as 2 Teams can buy any player they want.

They did It before. What's holding them up now? No money?

Their problem is that they are neither: A) rich enough to afford any player they want like other teams viz the Red Sox and Yankees, or B) bad enough to get a top 3 pick in the draft every year for nearly a decade a la the Rays. The Jays are in a tough predicament because no one wants to go there with the Yankees and Red Sox spending unbelievable amounts of money on players, but they are competent enough in their drafting to get players that keep the team good, but not great, thus not allowing them to get elite talent.

And that no money theme extended to last years draft where they didn't sign 3 of their top draft picks. after that happened they cleaned house and brought in more scouts plus more commitment to player development.

The Twins are the model. They have the best front office and scouting staff in the league. :2 cents: I don't think that's very arguable, at least over the last decade.

Ya gota love Nick Swisher, there hasn't been a guy that happy to be a ball player since Ernie Banks. It's refreshing.

They brought a team that was inches away from being contracted back to prominence. Excellent management.

The Mariners are playing well of late. Going for their 4th straight win, p 1-0 in the 7th over the Angels. They are still 6 and a half back, but at least they are not continuing to plummet.

I'd put the A's and Twins on about the same level in the past decade. The benefit for the twins was they were the first team with a full fledged camp in Latin America, bringing in tons of foreign prospects.
