MLB 2009 thread

Wow, horribly pitched game by both squads. Although I don't care who wins the NLCS (since whoever wins the ALCS will be the World Series champ) I see the Dodgers taking this series in 6. I hate Manny but he is downright dangerous.

Well, yes and no. As David Wells astutely pointed out after the game, the home plate ump wasn't giving the low strike we've all become accustomed to seeing in recent years. So everybody had to elevate their pitches, which generally means the pitchers will get tentative and the hitters will get fat.

Hamels adjusted better than Kershaw. He got some big outs throwing fastballs up out of the zone that the Dodgers failed to lay off.

Then again it didn't seem to bother Chan Ho Park at all. Where the hell did that outing come from?

Despite giving up 8 runs the Dodgers still had every chance to win. Just 6 runs on 14 hits with 10 left on base. They better win today or they're done :wave2: .....and you know Pedro Martinez would love to further humiliate Lasorda for concluding Pedro didn't have the physical makeup to last very long in the majors.

That really isn't an excuse since it seems as though every single umpire has his own interpretation of the strike zone so the pitchers should be accustomed to adjusting.

I love Pedro, the old goat, but he seems to get rocked after the 5th inning. Chan Ho Park was amazing.

Pedro is the man, too bad they yanked him and the bullpen blew it but you can't second guess the manager now. I thought Girardi was nuts when he left C.C. in the 8th inning but it turned out okay in that case.

CC is a horse...as we saw last season

he'll go as long as the team needs...and he was still pumpin in 94-96 in the 7th...so hes fine

I agree but if the Yanks want to pitch him 3 times this series then they have to get him out of there as soon as they can. C.C. hadn't pitched in 8 days but the bullpen hadn't pitched in 5 days so they should all be well-rested.

I can :D
He'd only thrown 87 pitches and the Dodgers had only hit one pitch hard, the 87th. Otherwise they looked completely stupified. And the Phillies bullpen is their weak link, so......terrible move.

Yes but those are generally pretty subtle differences. This was significant. No strikes called at or below the knees, which forced everything into the most comfortable zone for hitters.

I didn't know the pitch count was so low, 87? Pitching the way he was, he could have completed the game. Pedro has a history of getting absolutely rocked in the later innings so who knows, maybe taking him out was beneficial, its all conjecture from this point.

Just heard from Joe Buck before the Yankee game. I hate the Yanks. But JB works.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
There's still baseball going on? Really? I thought the season ended in September...

Damnit, I didn't. I hate the Yankees. I also hate the Angels for eliminating Boston, but I guess I'm rooting for LA in this series.

You know, I probably wouldn't hate the Yankees if they would get rid of Jeter and A-Roid.

They could field an entirely new team next season and I would still hate the Bankees. Rooting for the Angels, and whoever comes out of the NL is fine by me.

I hate the Yankees.

Me too. And I hate that new stadium. It's a fucking bandbox. Out of 85 games played there this season there have been exactly 2 where neither team hit a home run.
Two!
They might as well play their home games at Williamsport.
They should call it The House That Wuss Built.

The Yanks have hit 6 homeruns in Angels stadium and 2 at Yankees Stadium this postseason. Good game, CC was dominant. Hopefully the Dodgers can find some life and make it (but it looks doubtful at this point).

That was a great series...although the Fightin' Phils have been playing great baseball as of late, I predict the Yankees in 6. Go Yankees! :)
