Mixed Martial Arts

The fights in this season of TUF are pretty damn boring. I expected a lot more from them since these guys are seasoned fighters, and not rising stars.

I hope BJ Penn embarrasses Hughes.

I know what you mean, without actual coaches this season makes it seem somewhat off.

BJ embarrass Hughes?!?!?...........not bloody likely!:D

Maybe not, but here's to hoping!

The look they keep showing on Hughes' face in these commercials after Penn beat him the first time is PRICELESS! The guys a great fighter, I just don't care for his attitude. I'd love to see him taken down a notch or two.

Oh, you better believe Hughes gets submitted. Penn is getting the belt back. And dont look past the striking of Penn.

With the fights of TUF 4, i think (so far), they're better than TUF 3. And i think Shonie Carter is a trip to watch... i like it.

Penn has been away from fighting for a very long time, and that really means something in fighting. If I had to place a bet, and I didn't want to lose my money, I would feel that it was safer with Hughes than with Penn.

I disagree about the fights this season being better than last season. I think mainly because they seem to have all ended in the first round so far this season.

Senor Cheese, is Pride on Fox Sports Net very often? I'd like to catch some more of it, and you seem to know a lot more about it than I do.

Pride is on FSN on sunday and it replay's.

check pridefc.com and fsn's website. If u have some extra money, buy Final Conflict on PPV. And get into Pride, its great MMA.

And if u live near Vegas, u should go to The Real Deal on Oct. 21st.

much better than what's aired in the USA(ufc) IMO. (and before im told otherwise, it's just an opinion, i won't argue it here, let alone an mma forum.)

owgp was fantastic. one of, if not the best, PPV's i've seen.

BJ Penn will lose. GSP would've won, and will whenever he finally fights Hughes again.

Wanderlei is going to demolish Chuck, if they actually fight.

Emelianeko vs. Filipovic? Fedor should win, but it'll be a great fight. Mirko has gotten SOOOOOOO much better.

up and coming:
Fedor vs. Coleman? Fedor wins easily, Coleman suffers a devestating defeat. But! not a career ender. the Hammer still has plenty left.

Shogun vs. Randleman? in the air. good fight no doubt.

already stated Hughes vs. Penn.

Franklin vs. Silva? close, but i'll take Rich Franklin. (won't be surprised if Andersson takes it, though. he's REAL good)

my dream fight: Sakuraba vs. Couture. no playing to the fans!
:glugglug:

Penn will win.

And as far as Randleman and Coleman go - i know they're facing two top fighters, but they still have a chance. Especially Randleman. Coleman will make it interesting, but Fedor wins no doubt. And with the American rules, Randleman will make Shogun battle.

but its going to be nice to see shogun use those elbows! plus he can still knee to the body and the shoulders. randleman is the monster, though. its going to be a great fight.
i have a feeling the coleman will be overwhelmed by fedor the same way he was in the 1st fight. i hope coleman learned something from his fight with mirko after watching the tape...that's the only way he'll have a chance against fedor.

Scrath the elbows part. Pride won't allow elbows.

probably old news, but i heard today angle is going to fight in mma. his first fight will be against the last tough enough winner/reject. i would love to see angle choke him out. in fact, i will pay to see it. $39.95.

I just watched the Countdown program on Spike. I had no idea that Loiseau/Swick was on the undercard. If it was mentioned here, I missed it. That fight could be every bit as exciting, and possibly more exciting than the main event.

Yea, he is a big fan of all MMA. Once he is healthy, he wants to fight. A bit too late... but better late than never. If he trains, he could do well. He already is fit and is a top wrestler (hughes, lindland, henderson).
He could do well -

and more importantly, he would bring in new fans and attention.

just like Mike Tyson.

oh come on! hes better than tyson was after prison. at least angle can hang.

but you were talkiing about american rules. in order for it to be a sanctioned event, no kicking downed opponents, no threepoint knee attacks. elbows are allowed in america. pride may not want them, but a fight without knees or kicks on the ground, and no elbows to the head? thats a no-seller. if they obey the comission's rules, there will certainly be elbows. but it'll also be interesting to see. kotc has allowed knees on the ground before, depending on the state. as far as i know though, cali doesn't allow for all that, but they allow elbows. we'll see. you do know they're fighting in california, right?

the commision will allow it, but Pride doesnt want to use elbows.... and its in Vegas.

With MMA competitions keeping piling on new rules year after year it's going to get to the point in the near future where I will loose interest. I won't want to watch it if it becomes just a glorified form a boxing, which ironically, it has always been safer than.

Penn will win.
well, i hate to tell you that i told you so...

anyway, it was a good fight. penn looked real sharp in the 1st round. IMO, and when you can finally view the fight again, the fury unleashed at the end of the 2nd round was a waste of energy. hughes took him out. if it was to go another round, hughes would've jacked Penn a few times, then thrown him around and smashed him the same.

i can't wait to see GSP vs Hughes!

and i agree with D-Rock, at least as far as UFC is concerned.

and on the other comment. it doesn't matter what pride wants or not, its up to the commission. they may encourage people not to elbow, but its legal, so why not?

well, i hate to tell you that i told you so...

I doubt that you really do :1orglaugh

That was a completely unimpressive win for Hughes. Ref stoppage? He wasn't doing any real damage to Penn with those tiny little shots, it just had to be stopped because Penn was unable to defend himself. Penn's domination of Hughes up to that point was much more impressive. It's too bad he gassed after exerting himself the way he did in the end of the second round. It's also too bad he didn't survive the third, because he probably would have recovered by the fourth, and we would have had a much better fight to watch. But, that's fighting. Penn should get another shot, and he should get it soon. His win over Hughes was much more definitive than Hughes' over him.

And I loved how you could visibly see Hughes deflate when St. Pierre told him that he wasn't impressed with his performance. Hughes is such an asshole.

I wasn't impressed with the Swick/Loiseau fight either. I thought, like Dana White said, that someone was going to get knocked out in that fight. I never expected it to go to decision. Of course, I never expected Loiseau to fight the way he did, looking like he was afraid of everything in there.

It was nice to see Rashad Evans finally finish an opponent. He has a looong way to go though. He's still just laying on top of people for too long without trying to do damage or go for a submission. Maybe this win will give him more confidence to try more of that stuff in the future.

Jens Pulver's fight was a bit of a surprise too the way they had built him up. I've never seen him fight before, but they really hyped him. He really did look like he let too much of his ego into the octagon with him though. He looked like he thought he wasn't going to have to put forth much effort in this fight, and he paid for it.

Oh, and does anyone know who the chick sitting next to Jenna Jameson was when they showed her?
