The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Holy fucking shit. The only difference? You obviously didn't look up "pornography" and "prostitution".

And guess what? I'm insulted. Not because you're getting me confused with a prostitute, but because I KNOW you didn't bother to do some research before you asked this ridiculous question. There. Heartfelt. Don't waste my time if you're not going to do your own research.

Where exactly did I call you a prostitute? :dunno:

I asked you and Jane a genuine question and you chose to respond with telling me that I should either Google the answer or just rely on my common sense. Is that what you consider research? Would Googling shit or applying common sense make me an expert on the subject? But hey, since you brought up common sense, allow me to display some of it...

Porn stars are paid money to have sex with people.
Prostitutes are paid money to have sex with people.
Escorts are paid money to have sex with people.

So, even though I never called you a prostitute or even came close to confusing you with one, now you can see why someone might do so in the future. Are there differences between the two? Yes. And, I have my own view of what those differences are. That's exactly why I wanted to know what you two thought the differences were, because I was interested in hearing your side of the story. But, apparently your side of the story is that I'm an uneducated, offensive asshole that's wasting your time. Thanks?

I just don't really understand why you're getting so offended over somebody asking you a question. You Might think that my question is ridiculous, but I think that your reaction to my question is a little ridiculous. I know that this is the internet, so misunderstandings occur, and I'm hoping that this is all that this is. I mean, if someone confuses me with a line cook instead of a chef, I'm not going to get offended by it. We both do pretty much the same thing (with minor differences), just with different labels attached to our name. That is why I wanted to know what you, as someone who works in the adult industry, thought the differences between escorts and porn stars were. To me, the differences are minor (just as the differences are between a chef and a line cook), so I wanted to know what your view was. That's it.

I'm sorry if you got offended, but I don't really see a reason to take such an attitude with me.

Google and Wikipedia could have answered all this for you instead of bringing it to a girl who said very clearly in the first post, "I have very strong views on this". You opened a can of worms, and that is why I'm annoyed. Plus, I'm pretty sure that most any girl would get pretty fucking upset with you if you compared what they did to prostitution.

"View"? "Thought"? No. Last time I checked there were cold hard facts when it comes to discerning the two. Hence why one is called an escort, and one is porn star.

I said I wasn't gonna waste my time to state the obvious, but if you're gonna keep on and on and on about it, here it is.

I AM A TAXED PERFORMER THAT ENGAGES IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH OR WITHOUT OTHER PROFESSIONAL TALENT(S) ON CAMERA TO BE VIEWED BY A PUBLIC.

Escorting is a fancy word for prostitution. And to give you an unbiased definition for that:

In escort prostitution, the act takes place at the customer's place of residence or more commonly at his or her hotel room (referred to as out-call), or at the escort's place of residence or in a hotel room rented for the occasion by the escort (called in-call). This form of prostitution often shelters under the umbrella of escort agencies, who ostensibly supply attractive escorts for social occasions. While escort agencies claim never to provide sexual services, very few successful escorts are available exclusively for social companionship. Even where this type of prostitution is legal, the ambiguous term escort service is commonly used. (See call girl). -- Wikipedia (who knew?!?!)

I mean, if someone confuses me with a line cook instead of a chef, I'm not going to get offended by it.
But if someone confused you for the illegal sale of your sexual favors to a complete stranger, you probably would be.

That is why I wanted to know what you, as someone who works in the adult industry, thought the differences between escorts and porn stars were. To me, the differences are minor (just as the differences are between a chef and a line cook), so I wanted to know what your view was.

Again, they are words, which have definitions. You don't ask for someone's view or thoughts on what color an orange is. It's ORANGE. Plain and simple.

agreed! strippers/pornstars/entertainers all are trying to earn a living just like everyone else in this world....why should their occupation be treated any differently?

BECAUSE THE OCCUPATIONS ARE DIFFERENT, GODDAMNIT. I didn't say anything about treatment? Who said anything about that?

No more of this escort talk. I am not an escort. If you want more info on escorting try giving a girl in the 'Adult Services' section of your local Craigslist a ring.

So if a girl does the "fuck a fan" thing, the fan needs to be tested as well right?

No one needs to be tested, but if it were me, I would test the hell out of them. And background check. I'm pretty sure that the girls that do 'fuck a fan' have the guys tested and/or use condoms.

I think the differences between prostitution and being a hardcore pornstar are so slim that one might as well be splitting hairs in most instances. A better question might be what are the realistic substantive practical differences between a porn star and a prostitute. The only real one, and the one that lets it exist and be legal (Not that I think prostitution should be illegal) is that pornstars are paid to create something on screen or in film or pictures and the sex is just a byproduct of creating the entertainment while prostitutes just sell themselves for sex. Most of the difference is just semantic, and the little real difference is small with the few issues where there is a difference.

I would also consider the fact that pornstars have greater standards over who they work with, but by looking at all the loser male talent that has existed in the industry since it started I can say for most cases and for the majority of pornstars that's not true, or at the very least the majority of pornstars standards are really low when it comes to partners.

Totally disagree. With pornstars they know in most instances who they are working with, for, whatever you want to call it. I am certain there is a clique of people who enjoy working with each other and they seek each other out. Prostitutes unless they have a regular client from time to time do not know from one day to the next who they will be working for or fucking. You don't call mainstream actresses prostitutes because they simulate sex on screen. Pornstars make a living providing entertainment fantasy for those of us that enjoy watching it. I have never once considered them to be prostitutes. It's amazing some of the insulting remarks that are directed at them on this board sometimes. Especially from the same people that profess to enjoy porn.

I don't believe that most pornstars get into the business for the sex (maybe the males do) it may be a nice fringe benefit but it is totally about making as much money as you can. You also have to have a certain degree of mental stability to be in that business. There have been a few that have fallen through the cracks (no pun intended) but from what I have seen from the ones that post here they appear to be well adjusted people. They are also providing entertainment. Prostitutes are providing a service. There is no comparison to be made between the two professions. IMHO.

partially truth, but prostitutes run a much higher risk of aquiring and STD. Also they engage with strangers and not professionals, so they put themselves in in a potentially harmful situation.

Number of Americans who get AIDS each year 40 percent higher than reported.

The number of Americans infected by the AIDS virus each year is much higher than the government has been estimating, U.S. health officials reported Sunday, acknowledging that their numbers have understated the level of the epidemic.

The country had roughly 56,300 new HIV infections in 2006 — a dramatic increase from the 40,000 annual estimate used for the last dozen years. The new figure is due to a better blood test and new statistical methods, and not a worsening of the epidemic, officials said.

But it likely will refocus U.S. attention from the effect of AIDS overseas to what the disease is doing to this country, said public health researchers and officials.

I'd say higher than 40%. :hatsoff:
