I love what the military does for us back here in the states.

I always worry when my brothers are in Afghanistan and Iraq though.

I just hate when people hate on the military like the crazy Iowa baptists. They need to be deported or executed. No one should ever have to go through with burying their child with them around.

I think you mean Fred Phelps and his church in KANSAS not Iowa. Thanks for giving the Hawkeye state a bad rap.

i just had to come back and say thanks again . i mean my hero is my father who for 39 years worked the same job to put food on the tables and clothes on our backs he had a heart attack doing that . i hope someday i can be half the man he is .

with that above being said i hope there are more men and women who do what you do . i cant thank you enough as an american who gets up every day to enjoy life cus of people like you god bless you all thanks from the bottom of my heart

I would like to say "your Welcome" to the americans that actually appreciate what we do day in and day out. It's not always easy doing when I did for ten years but I was proud of serving my country, I have made bonds with guys that some brothers will kill for.

I was in the Air Force in the 80's.

That was when you joined the military to see the world and save money for college. Not a lot of fighting going on.

Part of me wishes I'd seen some action.

I did 6 in the USN (Gator Navy)

Got discharged en route to deliver 3400 Marines to Saudi Arabia.

I liked the traveling, but not the way they run things. I learned alot about good and bad leadership there.

As a young pup, I "managed" to spend some time in the warm and friendly climes of Vietnam. I "liked" my first tour (1967) so much; that I went back for two more (1968 and 1969).

I had a GRAND time - save for all the death, devastation and destruction. You know?

Nothing like peeling your brother's brain off of your face... or getting shot at by AA and nearly bleeding to death ....

... I guess.

For those of you wondering: I'm being facetious. Vietnam was neither a joke nor a cakewalk....

Yeah, I'm an Old Fart now.
Speak for yourself! I'm no "old fart" thankyouverymuch...

USMC 89'-93'. 1st Bn 5th Marines.
The Consumate Professionals!
Would love to have you guys on my flank any given day of the week... especially when the chips are down!

Part of me wishes I'd seen some action.
Trust me son, it ain't all it's cracked up to be...

I learned alot about good and bad leadership there.
I hear that!!!

A lot of military guys like porn.

Believe it or not I would've joined, but I don't want to go to the middle east. Now I couldn't take being away from my family.

You really don;t get to pick where they send you. I was a 19d cav scout so we wound up in the thick of the fight almost everytime. I have to agree with the vietnam guy, combat is nothing that anyone WISHES they went in for. It's scarry as shit and is pretty tough to see a fellow brother get shot right next to you and have HIS blood on YOUR dcu/acu.

Would it give away my age if I told you LPH?

I think all Iwo Jima class and the one Thetis Bay class LPHs have been decom except for maybe the USS Inchon which was converted to a anti mine ship...

....and after sweeping for mines in the Gulf of Mexico (USNR), it too was sunk according to navsource.org

They're all gone now. I'm not sad but not happy.

OK I am happy
