Michael Vick Sentenced To 23 Months...

I think he's lucky he got only 23 months. The Judge could've added even more time. As I understand things, Vick showed no sincerity and did not make a forthright and earnest admission of guilt/remorse in court. Had he acted like someone truly sorry for his actions, he might've had 6 months, which is actually nothing, because he's going to be treated like a ********* for the first year anyway.

We can't make comparisons between different crimes and different punishments. Everything must be evaluated based on how it exists within the judicial system. I don't know how the judicial system is "updated" either.

I advise everyone to read Eric Schlosser's forthcoming book on the American Prison system--(maybe coming out Summer 2008) to get an "big picture" of the state of America's prison system. Let me give you a stat to chew on--when Schlosser was a *** in the early 60s there were 200,000 people incarcerated..today..40 years later--there's 2.2 million and growing. Something sinister is going on in our country.

Chef--BNF's Ghandi quote about judging people by the way they treat ******* makes sense when you consider the path to becoming psychotic usually begins with ****** cruelty...

You're saying that to a guy who makes a living by cutting up ******* and feeding them to people. :1orglaugh

Should Michale Vick be punished, absolutely, big fine, community service would be appropriate but not losing his liberty

But that's what the law dictates. For you to think otherwise is foolish. He did the crime, he admitted as much, now he's doing the time.

And no, it's not "fair" to compare the Vick case, which was an open and shut case, to the CIA probe. It's misplaced anger. Of course ******* humans is worse, but it has nothing to do with the Vick case. Nothing!

Oh ****! WHOOPS. He had syphillus but that's not how he died. Oh fuck, now I have to go look in the dictionary between "****" and "Sympathy". There was one? :dunno:

Vick did the crime and deserves his punishment. If he wasn't famous I suspect he would be spending less time in jail but that;s irrelavent as he has admitted that he broke the law.

Laws can be wrong and mis-guided and there have been examples of that in history. And the lack of concern about humans that my post examplified here and other places does make me angry but maybe that is mis-placed as you say.:dunno:

I recently put up a thread about the CIA erasing the tapes of the ********* of people held by them,it generated 3 responses as opposed to this one which has generated more than 30.Where is the clamor for those responsible to be punished? I don't see it.That is an example of priorities that are just slightly off IMO.

The CIA thread.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree Friday. Just another in a long line of the Bush administration flaunting the law to an astounding magnitude. The only difference between these guys and the mafia is the ethnicity of their last names and the size of their wallets. Criminals of the highest order.

But most of us grew up with dogs as pets and football on tv. Very few of us with a politician or a CIA asset in our house. None of us can change a goddamn thing 'Lil Bush and Darth Cheney are doing over there but we can all treat dogs nicely and readily condemn those who don't. Hence the difference in response.

Criminal Presidential Administration
Slavery policy thinly veiled as a "Justice System"
Pot, Poker, Prostitutes all still *******.....

Costa Rica, your shores become just a little closer every day.....

Of course laws can be wrong and mis-guided and whatnot, but that's not the case with Vick. It's really clear cut.

The CIA **** is fucked up. I didn't read it, but I'm sure it's fucked.

Michael Vick is indicative of problems facing single ******* and poor inner-city ********. Take a *** growing up in a poor neighborhood with a working ****** and no ******. This boy has no one to guide him or teach how to be a responsible adult. He is great athlete so gets special treatment throughout high school and college. He never gets a chance to develop as an adult. So the next problem, you give this immature person millions of dollars and more special treatment. So he is basically the *** that grew up in the inner-city that did foolish things like dog fighting and the problem is even worse because he now has millions of dollars. That is problem with a lot of pro athletes....they are still ********. I am not defending what Michael Vick did. He broke the law and he must face the consequences but I think they are making too big of a deal about this. There are crimes going on this country that deserve much more attention and that would be an effective use of tax payer dollars. Instead we have our money going down the toilet to try an make an athlete look bad and being used by some judge and prosecutor to advance their careers.:yinyang:

I don't have a problem with Micheal Vick getting 23 months for this. You can't just go around *********, ********** and ******* dogs for fun in Western society for (apparently) months/years on end, lie about it to the police and expect to not spend any time in jail for it.

However, keeping baby cows locked in a tiny compartment in miserable conditions, pumped up with ***** to keep them alive long enough to slaughter them for veal is definitely cruel and inhumane as well. And it is done for the pleasure of humans as well - when they eat their flesh.
So there is definitely a level of hypocrisy in all of this as far as I am concerned.

I wonder what his sentence would have been if he had done the same thing with cows (or almost any other ******)?

It's like the baby seal hunt here in Newfoundland. If they looked like cockroaches, no one would give a ****. But since they are amazingly cute, everyone goes wacko (I certainly am against it - probably mostly because they look and sound so cute and helpless).
