My god, I remember when the Big 10 was actually a decent conference in football/basketball, what happened in the past 10 years?

Everybody got better at recruiting around the nation across the board so the gap was narrowed. Plus a lot of college football systems changed to take advantage of certain aspects that came up, like the new systems that work the passing game unlike before, and the Big 10 never adapted either because they didn't know how, didn't have the personnel for it, or were too tradition bound. Plus now that there is a lot of quality programs out there now from even the colleges that aren't historic powerhouses having to play and live in a colder climate sucks for a lot of the athletes when some of them can easily get recruited somwhere else.

Yeah. It became ConferenceUSA by way of the Great Midwest Conference. It started in 1975 but by 1995 had been assimilated--like a lot of schools in the past several years. It had Tulane, Louisville, VTech, SFla, SMiss, Charlotte, VCU, Cincy, FlaSt, GTech, Memphis, St. Louis and SC among its members. The Cardinals probably were the most successful member team at the time headed by Denny Crum.

Do you think it could be a power conference today or just a mid-major.:dunno:

I don't follow college basketball too much, but I know that Memphis is usually pretty decent. Moving to the SEC wouldn't effect that, I don't think.

Now, as far as football goes, I think that Memphis would get man-handled in the SEC. Sure, they could hang for a while, but I think they would get dominated.

Better yet and I know you should remember this titsrock bring back the old Metro Conference remember it was just a basketball conference just think about it if they had football it would be a power conference with the likes of Flordia State,South Carolina,Va.Tech,Louisville, and Southern Miss how about that.........maildude,titsrock...yall know what I'm talking about... Get back with me on that what do you guys think.

Metro Conference? I actually don't remember that. It sounds like a hell of a conference!

I think the BCS system has changed College Football forever, and if we aren't going to get a playoff system than I want conference realignment across the nation so that the game is "balanced" among the present "power teams/conferences" and the *perceived* weaker non-BCS conferences. It seems to me that the BCS Conferences/member schools all think they are "elite" and they don't want to "mix" with the non-BCS schools. This seems very much against the spirit of academic integrity.

Conference USA is not a "bad" conference. I think Conference USA is comparable to a MWC/WAC combo conference. Maybe the winners of ConfUSA and MWC/WAC could meet in a championship game--winner goes to the BCS?

I think the Big10/11 is basically "The Upper Midwest Conference" and therefore the case for Notre Dame and Nebraska and Iowa State's inclusion with the exit of Penn State makes sense. The Big East needs Boston College and Penn State (and Memphis!) to strengthen it.

The Big 12 is really the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Mizz...Houston and SMU and maybe UTEP even could go into this version of the Big12.

The Pac 10 should expand--Colorado would be a great addition...and San Diego State because of San Diego's geography and financial power. It's an attractive roady option for all Pac10 schools....

Basketball- Might, dependin....

Football- Not A Chance at all, too much competition in the S.E.C.

and to me S.E.C. is the best in my book...Real Talk!!!
