I'm pretty sure she was fired, that's the spin actors say to try to save face. It's a major franchise in which she was probably guaranteed a lot of money and the movies are her only blockbusters.
Katie Holmes said the same thing when she was fired from The Dark Knight. She said she left The Dark Knight to film Mad Money with Queen Latifah. Yeah right.
The only actors that I know that left a major franchise on their own terms are Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley from the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
