Man Tasered After Sniffing Gas Bursts in Flames

SYDNEY — A man whose relatives say had been sniffing gasoline burst into flames after a police officer Tasered him as he ran at officials carrying a container of fuel, police said Tuesday.

The man, identified by his ****** as 36-year-old Ronald Mitchell, was in critical condition at a Perth hospital in Western Australia state following Monday's incident in Warburton, an Aboriginal community 950 miles northeast of Perth.

Western Australia police said they were responding to a complaint at a house when Mitchell ran outside the house carrying a cigarette lighter and a large plastic bottle containing what they believe was fuel. When he refused to stop running toward them, one officer Tasered him, police said in a media release.

The man was immediately engulfed in flames. The officer threw him to the ground and ********* the blaze with his hands, the statement said. Mitchell was charged with assault to prevent arrest and possession of a sniffing substance.

Unless the guy lit the fucking gasoline on fire with the lighter, I don't see how that is possible.

I don't know that much about electrical currents, but it seems really far fetched that an electrical signal from a tazor is going to arc from the guys body and into a plastic bottle and ignite the gas inside.

All you need is a spark to set it off. If it was a shallow puddle then it wouldn't have enough oxygen to burn. However, being a bottle, there was definitely enough gas for it to burn. :flame:

He may well have been stoned and been partially soaked in petrol. They are investigating whether the lighter had anything to do with it rather than the taser, eg taser made metal lighter spark in his petrol soaked hand= burning man.

I wasn't referring to the combustibility of gasoline- as you know it's actually the vapor of gasoline that is combustible more than the liquid, but gasoline evaporates at near room temperature; I assumed that it was the container that was the ignition point. It could be difficult to ignite clothing soaked in gasoline just from a spark, because of the open-air ventilation.

My doubts were about the taser's electric current igniting the gas. I just don't see how it could have a strong enough current pass through his body to the container. What blake said makes sense about the lighter, but the same thing applies.

The only thing that I can think of is that maybe the electric current struck the lighter before it ****** through the man's body, sparking the lighter setting the gas can on fire and spreading to his soaked body.

Any way, it's bad luck on that guy.

I didn't have time to read the title correctly yesterday so last night and this morning I've been wondering how the fuck he just bursted into flames from being tasered. I was thinking they would ban tasers since they can just start people on fire.

Police are getting so out of control.I live in philly and its just so amazing what we or the media knows about.If you catch someone you can imagine how much you didnt catch them.Also nyc had a case with a naked guy on a ledge obvisously mentally ill and it was clear if tasered hed fall.But they tasered him an he fell on his head brain dead and the cops are called heroes.Cmon now i support the police but what happened to real criminals being in prison.I was in prison and most the people in werent rapists ******s or robbers.Its maily non violent **** addicts.
