Democrats

Declared
Lincoln Chafee
Hillary Clinton
Martin O'Malley
Bernie Sanders
Jim Webb

Possible
Joe Biden
Andrew Cuomo
Dennis Kucinich
Brian Schweitzer

Declined to run
Elizabeth Warren

So these are the current candidates. We had a lot of (mostly trash) talk about the GOP field - let's check out the other side a little more indepth!

As a foreigner, there are pretty much three candidates, one of which refused to run - Elizabeth Warren. Other tha that, of course, it's Hillary vs. Sanders. And they are sure getting into it! Already, some dirt is on the table, like the big Mail Issue of Clinton, and the painting of Sanders as communist or even national socialist. Yeah, now that he can't just be ignored anmore, there have to be new ways to deal with him.

You know I am heavily biased, so I don't try to be fair in this. The whole damn political business is not fair.

Anyhoo, fire away with your views on the candidates and the perspectives of the ones who haven't gone in yet.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Of the "declared" group, I would say that Jim Webb is the one that I'd like to hear more from (though I'm not overly familiar with Martin O'Malley or Lincoln Chafee). As a U.S. Senator for my state, Webb showed himself to be relatively moderate and capable, though nothing special. I think that Sanders is sincere, but his politics generally don't line up with mine. And I would consider voting for Satan before I would ever vote for Hillary Clinton. Compared to her, is Satan really that bad of a guy? Maybe he's just misunderstood. :dunno:

But unless she winds up in handcuffs (which I'm sure Obama will bend over backwards to make sure that doesn't happen - or maybe issue her a pre-pardon if it does), it seems that Hillary is the anointed one for the Dems.

Sanders is the most genuine candidate among the entire group. He's also quite unlikely to receive the nomination. Nonetheless, he's my choice at this juncture. No one else besides Hillary and O'Malley seem to be very active. If Webb is running, he should probably let somebody know because he is receiving zero press on the matter from my perspective. My biggest concern from both sides of the aisle is that we will end up with a Clinton-Bush choice come November or 2016. I'll vote Green Party if and when that occurs.

If it comes down to Hillary vs any of the 17 GOP noms I guess I'll have to hold my nose (very hard) and vote for her. Ugh.

Same if Biden were to get the nom.

I don't see Sanders having much of any chance of winning a general election.

I would say that Jim Webb is the one that I'd like to hear more from.
I'm a HUGE fan of Jim Webb.

He's my choice but as Jagger pointed out he's not much on the radar screen yet.

Samesies. The only candidate worthy of election in a field full of rich old white people.

Just no. For the love of Cow, no. Bernie Sanders makes the Green Party seem like a viable alternative.

HAHAHA, I was thinking the same thing. Haven't heard his name or seen his face on TV at all.

He has absolutely zero chance of being elected. He's not doing any campaigning right now,he just hasn't done the groundwork needed to run for the presidency. That's why I believe he's not running to be POTUS. IMO he's running to get a cabinet position in a possible Clinton administration like Secretary of Defense

Out of all the major people running in either party Bernie Sanders seems like the only remotely sane choice, and the only possible person I might vote for, not that I agree with him in absolutely everything. Probably because of that he won't have a chance, although he is gradually climbing. Who knows maybe if he climbs high enough in the polls to make it close people that actually want him over Clinton will discard the whole "won't vote for him because he has no chance to get elected" philosophy and stop choosing Clinton.

At some point, a candidate either becomes legitimate or not. There's a long way to go but Sanders' consistent message seems to be resonating with a significant portion of the democratic electorate at an increasing rate. Meanwhile, Hillary is backpedaling on the email mess (even though I think it's much ado about nothing), and she seems to be more in a defensive mode and doesn't seem to be able to keep her focus on the real issues. Issues are all Sanders talks about and I think that's to his advantage. Still, a long way to go but Hillary losing ground to the benefit of Sanders is not good news for the Clinton campaign. When you throw the Trump factor into the overall equation, the next next 16 months promise to present a fascinating exercise in the American political process to say the least.
