It is heartening to see that Jack Nicholson was there at his side. And while I'm aware of their differences, Peter Fonda really should have been there to support Dennis as well.

Right on about Fonda. I'm disappointed he chouldn't take time out from filming infomercials to show up and support him for two or so hours. A real shame.

When you have someone so obviously near death that was vital in securing your place in film immortality, the very least you can do is to show support for that very co-star.
But hey, if that's asking Fonda to be too much of a mensch and look past personal differences for a few hours, so be it.
It's an attempt to make people think they're deeply sentimental or have "respect for the dead"......accompanied by the religious rhetoric and crocodile tears.:yinyang:
