Jean Gregoire Sagbo becomes first black politician elected in Russia

I was blown away when I saw a black guy in the Croatian town of Osijek back in '05. Completely unexpected.

ok.
but again what's so great about it?

I suppose the bigger news is that Russia has an honest politician...maybe that's what's so good about the article.:dunno:

now thats an answer, assuming of course that he is honest, which i doubt.
the two words, honest and politician just don't go together well.

When is the next KKK meeting?

Man I just asked a simple question and there you go labeling me.
pre judging me.
seems a little, whats that word?
Oh yeah, prejudiced!

I don't take offense though. I realize you can't help it.

Yep, I was the only one who didn't mention race in the thread and was the one called racist, go figure.

So he's black huh?
Thats great!
I don't give a fuck.

what makes it so great?

ok.

The answer is "very clearly" stated in the first two paragraphs of the news story. Didn't you read the "whole" article or at least the opening paragraph in the 4 minutes it took you to reply?

I read your first reply straight after you hit the submit button.

How ironic that you are an American who teaches English in Colombia. You must be "so great" at teaching English.

  • if a South American rose to political office in China would there be this same sentiment? how bout a Brit in India? meesterperfect is right on this one. its all about skin color when its a country wholly composed of people who arent black or have even done anything bad to blacks. if i remember correctly it was Europeans that did all the bad shit to Africans.

That's not a particularly good comparison as south americans or brits wouldn't be able to get political jobs in china or india respectively as they would need to be naturalised citizens of said country. I think you meant ethnicity rather than nationality and it would be a surprise if a white person lets say got a political position in india or china as there are simply not many white people there as few emigrate there. America is different as it is a land of immigrants so it should be no surprise if any person of any ethnicity got into politics, the same could be said of Australia and South Africa as well as Britain which has seen a lot of Commonwealth immigration. Also it's not about Russians doing anything bad to blacks, they simply never extended their empire as far as Africa, they are often racist against any non Russians regardless of skin colour and there is a growing far right movement in Russia. I understand skin colour shouldn't be an issue but in countries like Russia and some baltic countries black people suffer abuse for simply being black so stories like this give hope that black people are slowly being accepted into said societies, you're right it shouldn't be an issue but in these countries it unfortunately is (there is a lot of ignorance as people there have never seen or met black people before so it's easy to fear, hate and abuse people if you don't get to know them) :2 cents:

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
How does Stalin feel about this? Clearly his purging efforts were unsuccessful...

Also, I'm relatively certain that our president is Black. Your move, USSR.

USSR? Keep up chum.

An honest politician would be news anywhere.

Tomorrow evening at about 7:30 p.m central standard time. Make sure to bring marshmallows and Chocolate...white Chocolate, because we are making white power smores after the meeting.

White power smores? Lol!
