Japanese and American Reaction to Disaster

They already look like they're suffering from radiation poisoning. In the last episode I saw one of the housewives give her two teenage daughters spray on tans all over eventhough they were already completely brown from living in the sun, they looked subhuman afterwards :pukey:

Good to see a young boy looking after his Grandma  :hatsoff:

Two survivors found in quake-hit Japan city Ishinomaki

An 80-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy have been plucked from the rubble of a house demolished by the enormous quake which hit Japan nine days ago.

Sumi Abe and Jin Abe - said to be her grandson - "were found under debris", said a police spokesman in Ishinomaki city, Miyagi prefecture, according to AFP news agency.

The two were in the kitchen when the quake hit on 11 March, a doctor said.

They survived as they were able to get yoghurt and other food from the fridge.

The grandson eventually managed to reach the roof of the house where he flagged down a rescue helicopter, reported Japan's NHK news service.

The two are now being treated in hospital in Ishinomaki.

"Their temperatures were quite low but they were conscious," the police spokesman said.

He said details of their condition were not immediately available, though a rescuer was quoted as saying the boy was found shivering and with no feeling in one leg.

Miyagi was the worst-hit in the double disaster of the quake and tsunami of 11 March, with police now saying they fear 15,000 lives could have been lost in that prefecture alone.

On Saturday the military announced a man had been found alive in rubble, but it later turned out that he had been in an evacuation centre and had tried to return to his home.

Ulysses31, your contribution to this thread is second to none.

I'd just like to add this to complement your posts.

@ 06:35 Sergey Shoigu, Russia's minister for emergencies, said:
... "when such large scale emergencies happen, you begin to understand that wars are pointless. Why do people fight against each other? We have this war here. This is more destructive than wars. Such natural disasters destroy huge territories with man made objects. The results of people's work, their endeavour. And the worst thing of course is that people themselves die. This is the enemy that we should all fight together."

It's so true but I doubt it will ever happen. :2 cents:

On the ''American reaction to disaster'' front, I present to you a yard full of school busses that could have been used to help evacuate a hell of a lot of people from New Orleans well before hurricane Katrina hit land . . . if only the self serving mayor of that city at the time didn't have his head up his ass!

Yes, the busses would go on to get waterlogged by the floodwaters.  Adult Image Hosting

^^^ How soon people forget... the disaster in NOLA was due to neglect (of the levees), complacency (due to the mentality) and poor leadership (due to the retards running the city/state).

Maybe this was a bad analogy from the start... Japan = very organized, very cohesive, excellent work ethic. NOLA = corrupt, self-serving, "have fun" culture. Not a fair comparison... having live in NOLA, it's like a third world country, not in the same universe as Japan on any level.:2 cents:

How can you even compare these two events lol?

New Orleans is ridden of poverty, with tons of criminals running loose at the time. Sendai doesnt have any of that.

The Japanese road repaired SIX days after it was destroyed by quake

The picture of gaping chasms in a Japanese highway demonstrated the power of the March 11 earthquake.

Now the astonishing speed of reconstruction is being used to highlight the nation’s ability to get back on its feet.

Work began on March 17 and six days later the cratered section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka was as good as new. It was ready to re-open to traffic last night.

Now you see it...: This stretch of the Great Kanto highway was wrecked by deep chasms in the March 11 earthquake - but was repaired in just six days

I hate to bring this up but let's not forget.

It makes me sick to think that some people have said the earthquake was revenge for Pearl Harbor. The Americans got their so-called "payback" by dropping the bombs, but it's over and done with. I feel absolutely terrible for all those poor people that went through that disaster.

Look, a disaster is a disaster. I would hope most are smart enough to understand the media reports what they want you to believe. They say people in the us are selfish, ok, look at what happened after 9/11. The crews that worked tirelessly searching trying to clear the rubble. Not a natural disaster, but a disaster non the less. I'm sure if you look, you will see the same acts of selflessness in NOLA after katrina just as are being reported from japan. Of course there is looting in japan. You can take that whole cultural bs and shove it up your ass if you don't believe it. In my opinoin people come together during a disaster. You can't always look at the portrait the media puts out.
