I'm not going to compare the military, with a porn career, my point was, you join the service, you know what you're getting into, and you get training. You come to Hollywood to be an actress, and you find out it isn't as easy as you thought, and You MiGHT end up in a bad place, and in a bad way...they don't train you for that.

I think part of that is that porn was so taboo and seen as bad by some segments of society for so long that it drew a lot of scumbags into it and it's still suffering from that problem today. However, I don't think it's an inherent part of porn. It's completely possible for porn to clean itself up if enough people in the industry tried hard enough. I also think there are people in the industry that are ethical and for the most part do the right thing. They are just fighting a hard battle with people that don't. I don't see it as impossible that it couldn't get a lot more respectable than it is now, or at least for it to have a lot of major players in it that are respectable and ethical.

I think for it's long term economic survival and maybe even it's survival as we know it they will have to go that direction, despite idiots in it not wanting to and continuing to act like idiots that think nothing more than getting the next quick dollar. If they can clean up their act and get more mainstream appeal, even it that takes time, it would not only make more people at least excepting of it even they don't like it personally, but it would bring in more people that might otherwise not want to be in it and bring in more sources of revenue.

18 too young? No. It's not against the law. It all comes down to personal preferences. Myself, it's funny...the older I get, the less appealing I find the whole nubile writhing teen thing...more into the hunting cougars...god knows there are a lot of them, and good lord, when a woman hits 40 or so, it's like a switch is flipped. I see alot more girls in the UK entering the porn industry at the age of 18 just to pay for University fees, law was recently passed that allows universities to charge students £9000 per year as of next year so If you want a degree you'd better have around £30000 min lying around.

No they don't - this a total misconception. The money is loaned to the student who only starts paying it back AFTER they start earning over £21,000 year, starting repayments in the April following. Most students also take subsistence loans, so the total (if the university has the gall to change the full £9000) is closer to £40K
This means that students will eventually pay back money that they have borrowed to cover the cost of their own education when they can afford to do so, instead of letting everyone else in the country pay for the education that gets them that better paid job. Seems very fair to me - I talk as a father with 2 kids going through uni now.

Back to the thread - I stated right at the beginning that and 18 year old girl is too young, but an 18 year old woman is not. This was not some facetious comment, it was meant as a serious answer to the question. But, to spell it out, it is all to do with maturity. The problem that the law has it to be able to put an age to this maturity.
Some 18 year olds are clearly still girls and boys, some, however are women and men.
I would probably say that 18 is too young for MOST girls, but some are more than capable - I would site Sasha Grey as being one of those women. She has never come across as a "girl", and she most certainly seemed to know, right from the start, what she wanted and what she wanted to get out of porn. Others are/were too young - Tanner Mayes I would say was probably too young (I would suggest that she would possibly disagree with me), but that is the way that it comes across to me.

You gotta draw the line somewhere. Some 18 year olds are not going to handle it well and it will hurt them....but they'll learn, they'll grow, and they'll either sink or swim. But you know what? If they sink, they'd have probably sunk anyway.
