Iraq War

How bad is it? How can it get any better? Is it worse than Vietnam?

Member, you member...
I heard it is already longer than Vietnam.
Every war is bad.
May the soldiers and their families be blessed.
Our own Death_Blooms may be there, but I'm not sure.

what the fuck you lookin at?
I've been hearing it compared to Vietnam. Just as bad if not worse that that war...and like that war...we'll never win

It's longer then Word War II. Vietnam was about 12 years or longer. But like Vietnam we can not tell the difference between the people and the enemy. And like Vietnam we have a president who’s out of touch with reality. And like Vietnam, the Iraq invasion was a catastrophic error.

I was against going into Iraq before it happened, and I still think that it was a mistake. But now we have soldiers there, and I believe that we need to keep going. I don't think that withdrawing our forces will improve the situation there, though I can't really give any idea of how to put an end to the violence there either. The Iraqi military will likely have to take over once they are capable of doing so.

It's tragic to see how many people are killed every day. I no longer see any good news from Iraq of the various oppressed people finally being able to celebrate, and how small businesses are up and running again. Now it's always about how many people have been killed by a suicide bomber, or how they've found several people who had been executed. That's probably just the media showing what has the most effect on people, but it's still sad with no good news from Iraq.

We are not just there to fight the insurgents but to help the Iraqi people.

When I was there we would do patrols to the schools in the area and find out what they needed. We would fix up the place or just give them the books they needed. We trained there Police and there Army. We had Iraqi Special Forces attached to us in my unit. They would go on patrols with us and sleep in the same room as us. They would save us if we got in firefights.
On patrols we would have about 30 kids around us that would thank us non stop. There were mothers and fathers that would bring us there kids that had disfigured feet and hands and tell us that Sodom would boil them. All they had to say to us was… “Thank you! We love America!”

Operation Iraqi Freedom is a lot like Vietnam… We didn’t know who the bad guys where and most of the casualties were from booby traps.

I have been there and lost many of my buddy’s in combat… and if you ask me or if you could ask them if we should be there. The answer is hell yes. We are doing a lot of good for them.

War sucks … nobody likes war but some times its got to be done.

You could not find a small businesses befor we went... Sodom controlled everything. You can hardly walk down the street now for all the businesses.

They have TV shows now ... I think its like 45. Befor we went there was 2 and it was nothing but Sodom.

It's really nice to hear that there is some good being done over there, but that was never the reason we were given for going to war there. The one and only reason we were told we had to go to war in Iraq was that we needed to perform a pre-emptive strike against them because they had weapons of mass destruction, and they were an immediate threat to the U.S. because they were likely to use those weapons against us. That's it! Everything else such as "we went to liberate the Iraqi people" is just spin that surfaced after no WMD's were found. It's terrible that Saddam treated his people the way he did, but that's not a good enough reason to go to war spending our tax dollars, and more importantly, getting our soldiers killed.

I'm not against war across the board. Going to Afghanistan was absolutely the right thing to do. Bin Laden needed fixing, no doubt about it. And that's another reason we never should have gone into Iraq when we did. Our legitimate job in Afghanistan was not finished, and still isn't finished, and isn't even discussed anymore because Iraq gets all the attention.

There are plenty of other countries where human atrocities, and genocide is happenning, and we're not helping, or "liberating" those people. There are other Countries that pose Nuclear threats. Countries, in fact, that, while Iraq was saying "No, we don't have weapons of mass destruction" were saying, "Damn right we're developing nuclear programs, So what?". It's painfully obvious that Bush's administration took this on as a personal matter that has gotten away from them, and it's costing us well over the 1.7 billion some odd dollars they said it would cost, and continues to take the lives of our soldiers. And Bin Laden is still at large.

How are we safer now for all of that?

i think the major difference right now, is that during Vietnam, more people were opposed to it.... see the counter culture hippie movement.... however, Iraq war is still fairly new compared to Vietnam.... American opposition to it, will only increase. And the biggest difference is, more people in Vietnam were dying.

I was going to comment ...

I heard it is already longer than Vietnam.
I was going to comment as I started to read the responses.
But with statements like this, I'd really have to cover a lot of elemental US history.

Thanks for the info. The things you mentioned are some of the reasons why I think that people should support the soldiers in Iraq, no matter how they feel about the war and the reasons behind it.

The problem is that some people can't separate the politicians, their agendas and the rhetoric/counter-rhetoric from the honest, heavily underpaid people in-harm's-way everyday. And that's just sad, especially given the type of character and history you will find in the US military compared to just about every other nation in the world.

The funny thing is that the US Marine will come in and save your ass from being slaughtered even if you spit on him and kicked him last week. I think it would literally take such an event with Fox for him to change his viewpoint. You can never understand the shit American soldiers go through and still keep their head up high until you've experienced it first hand overseas.

And if Gore hadn't won, there would be no war. I would bet my life on it, although there is no way to prove that. I personally think if Gore had won there'd have been no 911, either, but I can't prove that, either. I am well aware Bush doesn't run things per se. But he has a hell of a lot of foreign policy influence and power - and his people, too. And I can say with all my heart, it may not rest squarely on his shoulders, but it is BOB - because of Bush, his election primarily - that all this is even happening.

Fox

You are a fucking moron if you thing that the Terrorists 911 cause Bush was in office… I have never herd anybody say something more stupid!

Let’s go through this… lets say I am a Terrorist and you are saying that I was sitting in Iraq or where ever I was at the time of the U.S. election and made my choice on who won the election!

“Well Boobla Boobla looks like we are going to attack the U.S. this year. Down with Bush! We don’t mean to kill Americans but we just hate Bush!

You are a fucking MORON!

We can only deal with one country at a time... what would you have us do? We don't have a military that big.
Iraqi Terrorists have attacked us… the other countries have not. I don’t know about you but I like having them at the top of my list.

It lets you sit at home and complain about how you think it’s wrong.

My God! You really have no idea what's going on around you!

By the way, I'd cool it down if I were you. I'm sure you're very close to being banned with your last post.
