Big fucking nay! I work in an industry that's directly affected by internet piracy. In fact, my union is one of the biggest advocates to pass anti-online piracy legislation. It directly affects our livelihoods because the more ******* downloads there are, the less music and movie studios make, and the less likely they are to make more movies, put on music tours, or produce tv shows.
Ever since the boom of online piracy started we have been hit very hard. Back in the 80's and 90's there were SHITLOADS of movies being filmed in San Francisco. In the past 5 years we've had less than 10.
soooo, im guessing back in the day, you never borrowed a cd from a friend, went home and record it onto a tape, right? :/
The music industry has been similarly impacted. When I started doing rock 'n roll in 2001 I worked 90 shows just between Shoreline Amphitheater and the Concord Pavilion over a span of 6 months. This past year I worked less than 80 rock ' roll shows at numerous major venues, at least 12 that I can think of off the top of my head, throughout the Bay Area. That has definitely impacted my income.
When people practice internet piracy they think they're just affecting some filthy-rich corporate executive who won't miss one or two million dollars in lost revenue, but they are actually affecting everyday working-class people like my coworkers and myself.
