Internet piracy

Big fucking nay! I work in an industry that's directly affected by internet piracy. In fact, my union is one of the biggest advocates to pass anti-online piracy legislation. It directly affects our livelihoods because the more ******* downloads there are, the less music and movie studios make, and the less likely they are to make more movies, put on music tours, or produce tv shows.

Ever since the boom of online piracy started we have been hit very hard. Back in the 80's and 90's there were SHITLOADS of movies being filmed in San Francisco. In the past 5 years we've had less than 10.

The music industry has been similarly impacted. When I started doing rock 'n roll in 2001 I worked 90 shows just between Shoreline Amphitheater and the Concord Pavilion over a span of 6 months. This past year I worked less than 80 rock ' roll shows at numerous major venues, at least 12 that I can think of off the top of my head, throughout the Bay Area. That has definitely impacted my income.

When people practice internet piracy they think they're just affecting some filthy-rich corporate executive who won't miss one or two million dollars in lost revenue, but they are actually affecting everyday working-class people like my coworkers and myself.

They were bootlegs before the Internet and they exist and always will.

There's no way to stop piracy. Making more laws only hurts the majority.

We need to think about higher issues like term limits, insider trading among politicians, and the economy.

Yes, for sure.

I download all my music and burn DVDs rented from Red Box.

Pirate videos are Terrible quality. It doesn't make sense to spend $$$$ on a huge Plasma TV and watch crappy blurry pirate films. And don't forget most come with Viruses too. it can steal your bank savings. NO thanks LOL

Nay...but I sure the fuck ain't spending $34 on a blu ray when a few weeks later it'll be $12.99 previously viewed. I buy all my movies previously viewed. Is that really any different? The people who made the movie aren't getting my money either way. Brand new movies are way overpriced.

I download music, but I also spend $40-$60 a week on c.d's and a lot of times, I end up buying what I downloaded. I pride myself on my c.d collection. I do my share.

Kind of oddly ironic, yes? :D

soooo, im guessing back in the day, you never borrowed a cd from a friend, went home and record it onto a tape, right? :/

you can make music or you can make money.....

those people who are filling arenas and trying to get balla status in the music industry really aren't musicians, they are just puppets mass-producing a formula-driven commodity.
Those TRUE musicians making actual art / music are making a living by touring, producing their own ****, and developing a following / niche (in areas where culture is fostered/appreciated). THOSE types of loyal fans will gladly pay for albums and travel to concerts and support their artists.

I have no sympathy for today's "film/music biz artists" who are just trying to crank out **** for radio / MTV demographics.....you're making McDonald Cheeseburgers and trying to call yourself a 'chef' - FUCK. YOU.

Time is money. One could waste hour$$$ trying to find Pirate videos or just head over to itunes and download everything quickly and cheaply.. and get on with life. There's more to life than being a nerd sniffing around for freebies.

Kind of oddly ironic, yes? :D
I agree. Just to save a few bucks on DVD, people will download a pirate video which usually contains Malware that will clear out your Life savings. Suck **** :1orglaugh

Nay, its not right how people try to justify stealing. For those that are for it, I do not know what you do for a living, however Im pretty sure you do not work for free. If you do, well I need a good landscaper....

Back on topic, who here likes porn? *waits for everyone to raise hands* Heres the thing, I love sex and would continue to have it no matter what. However if porn coninutes to be pirated, theres going to be less and less porn being made. Today pornstars are scrutenized. Once we are done shooting porn, its hard to get another job. I can never be a teacher, even though I would love to. I will never be properly respected in an office enviroment. We are not just paid for our work, but the effect it can have on our lifes. If theres no money there, well theres no reason for me to record what happens in my bedroom ;).

I don't get how anyone can steal music from bands and musicians that they really love and who affect their lives in a positive way. I have always said if you like a band and want them to continue making great music then buy their albums or they will have no reason to. As far as porn, I only pay for sites that feature stars I want to support and with movies I rent.

Sorry but you will never convince me downloading a copy of any multimedia file on your computer is steeling. It’s a copy! Copy means you’re not taking any product from anyone that realizes it's gone!

They can put there passwords, they can put there inscriptions, they can even try to shut down the file sharing sites like lime wire to make it harder for people to download content. In the end that is just the name of the game today! Besides there are now 7 billion people in the world, you can still make money doing whatever. Hell even you tube has there stupid adds now, playing the game to make there $

Playing with words, to make the act of taking copyrighted material without paying for it look not a crime is useless.

Saying, 'I just took a copy', or 'They already made a lot of money', or other, that is all lying to yourself.

The result will be, the copyright owners will have to take more and more thieves / filesharers to courts and sue.

You take your chances, but don't cry when you get to pay a shitload of money or even have to go to jail :2 cents:

I think at some time, everybody has done the act, but you have to get real.
