If you could go back in time...

I would but no matter what I did cannot have any effect on history. I'm a firm believer in whatever happened, happened. Like if I went back to 1955, I would have always been back in 1955 and anything I did always happened. If I went back to stop a friend from getting a DUI, it wouldn't have worked because if it did, they wouldn't have gotten that DUI that caused me to go back and prevent them from getting it. So since they did get that DUI, something had to have always stopped me from preventing them or I may have inadvertently caused it. :D I love talking about this kind of stuff

I would go back to the 20s, 50s or 60s, to medieval times, old west, and when man was just starting out on earth

There should be a stipulation that you can not change history. Only bad things can come from it.

I would bet everything on all the Steeler super bowls.
I would love to go and meet my grandmother that passed away when my dad was ten.
I would bang the hell outta Sophia Loren.

ive actually always thought what would happen if you went back, while taking weapons from any war to the one directly before it. for me itd have to be an American war, and American weapons

say, WW2 to WW1.
or hell, Gulf war to Vietnam.

imagine the possibilities. the lives saved etc.

If you wanna say lives take back today's body armour that we wear. Weapons will still fire bullets that can kill you. A MP44 will still kill you in if you have an M16.

Stay away from the Lost forum then. I swear, there's people on there with PhD's (seriously) that have been arguing this stuff for at least a couple of years. Is WHH (What Happened Happened) without exception? Does time course correct for alternative events? :dunno: That stuff is WAY above my paygrade.

I was going to say I'd go to Rome in about 45BC and wait around for Julius Caesar to get clipped the next year. I'd watch the fireworks between Octavian and Marc Antony, and then head off for Greece and Egypt... try to figure out how some of the ancient architectural miracles were built, that our dumb asses still can't design or build without a high powered computer and big earth moving equipment.

But since I can't speak ancient Latin, Greek or Egyptian - and nobody at that time spoke English... I guess I'd be fairly well fucked, wouldn't I? :wave2:

I better stay here and just try to stay out of trouble.

I'd go to the early 70's, or the early 50's so I could hear Rock N' Roll and Rock at it's finest.

So basically you want to work for criminals or be a soldier? You can do that without going back in time!

yea, but it was a better time when most people didnt hate you and everything about you. it was a simpler, better time. not to say i find war cool, fun, or anything like that. ive just come from a family where i can see the nobility of the Allies actions.

and capone/mob actions, well that really is just better than todays pieces of shit walking the street. crime of the olden days tried not to kill women or children, and didnt just outright kill cops

There's definitely some musical acts that I missed out on, i.e, Nirvana, Sublime, Notorious BIG, 2pac. further, Jimi Hendrix. fortunately Radiohead is still a group so I have that to look forward to. more than anything if I could go back to high school i'd do it in a heartbeat and change so many mistakes I made since then.

2 things.
1. I could give a shit if people hate of like me based on my service record. I try to judge people the content of their character, not by their jobs. your young enough still where you can enlist and at least do half of your list. BTW war SUCKS anyone that wishes to go to war or be in war is a total nut job.

2. How do you know that most people did not think Capone was a piece of shit?

your right, i am young enough still to enlist like most men in my family did. but im currently working towards being a police offcer, taking classes at SF city college in Law Enforcement and criminology. although i am thinking about joining the CG Reserves before i actually apply to SFPD, or one of the surrounding city PD's. so ya never know. and yes, your right war does suck. my dad lost his cousin in Vietnam outside of saigon, so im aware of the reprecussions.

and i dont know most people didnt think capone wasnt an asshole piece of shit. but he was active in a day when his actions brought a commodity to the people, one that was greatly sought and wanted (because the law forbade it. a law that FDR repealed because he saw the uselessness of it). on top of that, other people, bank robbers and lightning runners were looked at as modern day robin hoods and/or folk heros. so, i guess it could go either way really. depending on your point of view

and, jasonk282, id hope that this wont cause a beef between us. i understand your thoughts and they make sense. just observations, and thoughts on my behalf too

Yeah, it's because of Lost that I really became obsessed over theories on time travel. I used to like to watch documentaries on it and whatever but thanks to that show, I love to discuss it. :helpme:

No beef here at all. just throwing my :2 cents: into the conversation.

A couple of things come to mind...

I'd go back to a time well before they had DNA testing.
I'd also love to go back to 1932 and become a U.S. Senator.

I'd go back and participate in World War One. I'd probably die, but personally I don't think there has been a more honourable and brave time in history. Nothing better than dying with honour and a Ross Rifle.
