Jane - I'm certainly not attacking you, and I'm not even disagreeing with you outright. I've heard this line of thought quite a lot, but I'm curious - does someone owning an iPhone mean they're "just as bad," or "just as much a part of the problem" as a corporate banker that pushed high-risk loans, got TARP money, and then received huge bonuses?

It seems like a weak and rather silly argument to me.

:2 cents:

No it isn't. I see vegetarians all the time stating people should not eat meat. I have never once seen them protesting eating a hamburger or any other piece of meat. That is 100 percent against what they stand for. People that actually believe in their causes do not do buy the products of the companies they are targeting.

You can't say a corporation like Apple is greedy and then buy their products. That's makes you a hypocrite.

Fair enough.

What should they do for cell phones? They have replaced home phones, and if they're waiting for callbacks from job interviews, they really need a phone.

What specific things has the government done to interfere and mess it all up?

Without getting into specifics I'll just say regulations, taxes, laws and fee's, welfare system, immigration policies, oil prices, ect ect and a heaping mound of other bullshit .
Try starting a small business, or even paint someones house for them....or just get a job and look at your deductions each week...........see how THE GOV makes it almost impossible for you to even break even, never mind be successful or make a few bucks.

Before THE GOV turned into a Blob-like creature that needs more and more of OUR money to sustain it and make it endlessly grow the economy was fine for hundreds of years., give or take a few natural ups and downs from time to time.
Now its a wreck with a future looking even worse and all the President and his buddies want to do is spend more.........and fool us into thinking that's gonna help when in reality theyre just using the crappy economy as an excuse to rob us even more which they know will only hurt us more.
But that's part of the plan it seems, to put almost everyone save a few mega millionares in the poor house and totally dependent on them.
It sucks, watching your country go downhill and you can't do anything to stop it.

It's easy to speak in generics. I asked for specifics. To clarify how about some Obama particular specifics that you feel interfere and mess up capitalism.

People might take their messages against corporate greed more seriously if they didn't have a bunch of corporate gadgets. I have seen them with iPhones, Droids, new laptops, designer clothes, etc. How can you fight greed when you are a part of the problem?

I'm not targeting either one of you;but this to me is a perfect example of a big part of the problem. There's no simple solution; nothing is absolute. People on both sides of the issue have valid points; but the media; and various other groups ,want to portray this as as black-or-white us-against-them issue, and it isn't. The solutions to these problems are going to require compromises from all sides, but it seems to me that no one wants to find the middle ground.

When are people going to realize and acknowledge that it's never the extreme side of anything; it's always somewhere in between?

Well, its not like they're going from their picket lines to the nearest Apple store. Most people are stuck in contracts, so even if they smashed they iPhone on the ground right now, they still have to pay a monthly bill on that phone or otherwise pay a ridiculous cancellation fee. And the only reasons these contracts exist in the first place is to justify the ridiculously high prices these phones start with.

In fact it could be argued that doing such a thing further defeats the purpose of their cause since then they are not even being provided a service or they're going to be billed in order to STOP having that service provided. You're screwed either way, and corporations set it up that way so that either way they come out on top. That's the whole point of corporate greed.

Its not as simple as realizing that my barber is a racist and that I don't really want to go to him anymore, cause hes not going to come banging on my door letting me know I owe him $400 since I won't be coming to him anymore. Because frankly capitalism used to mean that if as a consumer you wern't happy with the goods/services being provided then you simply find another provider. Now its been set up that finding another provider means you owe the last one a departing fee.

One of the reasons a company like Apple doubled their stock from the beginning of 2007 to the end of 2007 and has doubled it again since then.

It's not just Obama its been happening for years, Obama just put it in turbo mode that's all...........or at least is trying his best to.
Now we got, "Lets spend a few more trillion, that'll fix the problems".
Only a fool would believe that.
Its like loaning somebody money to buy food then they spend it on meth..........you gonna loan him more if he promises to buy food with it this time?

Ok X, if it ain't the fault of THE GOV, then what is it?
I'm open for alternate theories, but I think you know I'm right and your just playing dumb because youre thinking of it as a repub/dem thing which it aint.

The GOV got to big, it's out of control and it ruined the economy.
What else?

You're a sad, small little man. I hope that felt good for you.

Also, Will just ensured that I'll never check this thread again! Good way to end a discussion that was actually worth having! We were discussing things, you made a stupid, ridiculous statement in a conversation in which you weren't involved. Thanks, Will. You're ruining this board one thread at a time.

That is all. No reason for my answer, just a ridiculous answer. I'm trying to emulate Will.

By the way, he's going to quote only part of this, and misquote me to say only that it's a ridiculous answer, and neglect to mention the part where I say I'm emulating him. For the record, he's ridiculous.

You should post less. You're gaying up another thread by making it all about you. As usual.

Not at all.

If anyone is to blame it is Dirk.

You can post less. ;)

I agree 100 percent. I also have no idea how things are going to be fixed. All the government does is talk, fuck things up and then talk again. I just don't see all sides compromising anytime soon.

Your constant trolling is what inevitably brings the attention onto you (which is your goal of course). Don't blame anyone else.

A conservative christian fundie with nothing better to do with his days then troll a porn forum. That's pretty sad.
