I disagree with all of this. I think we are much better off without the over-moderation that we used to have. I understand that I keep coming up on the minority side of just about everything around here, but I honestly feel we have a better board. It was always absurd to me that anyone who comes in through the main site had fisting, choking and pushing immediately viewable, but we got so utterly sensitive about content in here, or the way something is said, or some other bullshit. If we're losing people because they can't take a punch, anything from "so be it" to "good riddance" applies.

To moderate or not to moderate, that is the question.
There has to be some level of moderation and there has to be some level of respect between posters. Posters that ignore that should be banned for a period of time to remind them that there are real people on the other end of the keyboard. There are always going to be disagreements, but that is no excuse for the level of abuse that has been directed by some members. It is possible to have an argument without resorting to name calling, believe it or not, even when provoked. The "You're an idiot", "No you are" argument does not add anything to the board, and just riles the participants further.

Perhaps there should be a way of marking a thread as "Anything goes" - This does not mean that participants should just post shit for the sake of it, but means that if the argument does start getting personal, it can continue without being moderated. If the thread is not marked in this way, then anything disrespectful should be punished, swiftly. Serial offenders can then be removed from the board.

Words can hurt, regardless of the sticks and stones saying, and that should be remembered when you are posting. To say "well, this is the internet, grow a backbone", is ignoring the fact that people are different and are affected by things in different ways. It is very easy to say, but not always so easy to do.

This board should be fun for everyone, that is what it exists for, and we could do without mindless yobs posting just to cause trouble.

Please allow me to clarify my decision to take at least a long break from posting. It is not because I can't take criticism, lay it on. Whatever. It is not because other people have "won."

It is quite simple, really. I really enjoyed the board in its previous incarnation - the one where many people thought it was over-moderated. Name calling wasn't tolerated, racism wasn't tolerated, hate speech wasn't tolerated. Now, any knucklehead can do any of those things without repercussion. The talk section is completely dominated by a couple of trolls, whose comments I really don't care to read, but are unavoidable. There is a distinct lack of respect for other members, and the fun of the board has, I think, diminished severely.

I don't find it fun anymore. That's why I'm not posting. Clear enough?

I check PMs, which is how I found out about this thread. There are people here that I genuinely enjoy.

And one last point, Dirk.... when I was banned for a month, you STILL continued to rag on me. all those threads about "Bring Sam back", you were right there in the thick of it saying the board would be better off without me. Yet, when I returned, you were one of the first to continue to post in my threads that had nothing to do with the topic at hand. It was always a smart-ass put-down, name calling, or just the typical "stir the shit" comment.

It's funny about this forum, as I go to this sports forum I post on, I've already received a three month ban there and those mods are the most hypersensitive bunch of fags I've ever seen. Shit is a turnoff, honestly. Why did I get banned? Because I said our team - my team - the Wild, have not only the worst team name in all of professional sports but also the ugliest shitass rags for jerseys on the planet as well. It was self-criticizing and you cannot even imagine the backlash I received from all those bitch ass homers. It was so trivial; it really ticked me off. BUT, they only banned me from the Wild "board" for that duration, so I put the team on blast on other parts of the board during that time.

Well, I do not agree with you at all on that. I always found Dirk to be, as I said before, a person who would engage in an intelligent debate... if YOU were prepared to do that with him. But if you wanted to act like a total asshat, he'd treat you as a total asshat. He didn't give the same level of respect to a moron as he'd give to someone who just happened to disagree with him, but was still trying to form a logical, rational argument counter to his own.

Think about it this way, here we have Sam Fisher. In all of my years on chat forums, I don't know that I've ever seen a bigger, more demanding attention whore whose lasted this long on a forum. Sorry if that seems insulting or cruel, but that's just my assessment of this name-changing, defective individual. Fisher claims that people pick on him because he is a (generic) "conservative (poor baby). But here's the rub with that false claim: I am more comfortable disagreeing with Dirk on the issue of gun control than I am agreeing with Fisher on that same issue. On the issue itself, I probably would be closer to Fisher's view. But the way that particular individual presents himself on here... I would prefer to engage in an intelligent debate with someone like Dirk than to waste my time (and my own self-respect) agreeing with a person like this "Sam Fisher" character.

There are other intelligent posters who no longer, or very seldom, post here now... like Jagger69. And not that I stalk them or anything, but I notice when they aren't here as much. At a certain point, even the amount of playful goofing around lessens and the fun goes away, because there is not just less intelligent discussion (or it's being drowned out by the asshats, retards and social misfits), there is almost NO intelligent discussion... even for a porn based board. Not to speak for her, but I think that's what Briana and others are talking about. Contrary to what some may think, it has nothing to do with being able to give & take. I'll match wits, win or lose, with most anyone. But why the hell would I waste time screaming at a barking dog? Do you know this old saying? "Argue with a fool long enough, and eventually, onlookers will not be able to tell which of you is the fool." IMO, Dirk has simply chosen to take a path that avoids any confusion.
