I get angry when Americans make generalizations about Finland, Sweden, Norway..

Usually Americans make ridiculous claims?

Usually any person outside of another country will make ridiculous claims about an outside country or culture.

Making the cliam, "that Americans usually do one thing or another," is a ridiculous cliam.
Remember... everything you see about something comes from the media... Its not a real representation.

Then I can imagine that when you say americans, you are referring to U.S. citizens. When in fact there is a North, Central and South America... Many Americans.
Do you include Mexicans, Brazilians or Peruvians in that Genralization JAANARUUTU?
Knowing the way that every other country seems to have a problem with the U.S., I am sure those people would take offense to you lumping them in the "American" group with us no good, U.S. citizens.
lol

You are just as guilty, as those you are accusing...

America and Finland are completely different from each other.

So if I were North American I could think of the same way as some of them.

Scandinavia is one of the places I most want to visit before I die. The Norse Mythology and Black/Death Metal are two of my favorite things.

We say we are capitalist but we don't follow a true capitalist system
Like many other countries.

When you are the 4th highest taxed people in the world you aren't getting anything for free.

And yet they do so well in the quality of life tables.
Why don't you outline how things should work? I've seen your criticisms, but I haven't seen your desires.

I met this gal from Sweden once. We ended up doing the sex together. After, a guilty look appeared on her face. She said, "I was born in Sweden but I'm really Finnish." I responded, "I'm finished too, honey." I pulled up my pants, picked up my keys, and left.

I'm glad you brought up quality of life. USA scores 10 points higher overall than it's nearest competitor. But lets break it down by category.

Bulgaria and Hungary are 4 points cheaper to live than USA. The glut of the rest of Europe is way, way higher and score near the bottom in the world.

Leisure & culture? Take away Hollywood and BBQ, we have nothing left to offer. Ranking 15th is a joke. That's why we go to visit you.

Economy #1.

Environment 51 out of 100? I don't know what that takes into consideration but you all score way better than us. Iceland, Switzerland, Sweden, Costa Rica, and Norway are the top 5. Go figure.

Economy? USA #1 at 100. Next closest in Europe is Lichtenstein at 81, the UK at 72, and the rest below.

Freedom? We are all there at the top.

Health we scored a 90 locked half way between Europe's 100 and 89.

Infrastructure is 100 here. Congratulations Switzerland and Spain for your 33. Sweden with 47. UK 71. France 55. Germany 70.

Risk and safety we are all there at 100.

Climate I won't even speak about since there is nothing we can do about it.

As far as what my solutions would be? I don't know. The USA model seems to work fine for the most part. The cost of healthcare is horrendous and I put that blame on the lawyers and courts that award millions of dollars for spilled coffee and boo boos that don't heal in 3 days. Becoming a doctor used to be a noble profession dedicated to helping out the community. Today they have to concentrate on dodging the malpractice bullets. Tort reform needs to happen. No legislator will address that since the bulk of the politicians are either a lawyer or supported by lawyers political contributions. Don't take half of my paycheck and hand it over to these creatures. Those are the people running our governments. Keep it in your pockets and make your own decisions on how to spend it.

Source for these figures please? Last figures I saw showed baltic countries like Sweden as the best in the world.

I can believe that, but china is economically more powerful

I believe your economy is better than ours. But it's headed downhill. In fact, with all the nations in debt (just who are we in debt to? What will they do if a nation, with it's own military, refuses to pay?), we need to drastically change the economic system.
Freedom? We are all there at the top.
Sure about that? Patriot act etc etc etc...
Health we scored a 90 locked half way between Europe's 100 and 89.
Not much of a payoff for being the richest? And I seem to remember you being lower, so again, where di you source these figures?

That's what happens when your country isn't damaged in world war 1 or2 while most of the rest of the world is destroyed in near constant warfare (3rd world).
Risk and safety we are all there at 100.

How does the usa model work fine? Look at your country; you're in horrendous debt, you're losing your position at the top.
I notice how you don't mention that the bulk of politicians come from law... or finance. What business did you say you were in again?

If it makes you feel any better most people I know (not on this messageboard) generalizations about those countries tend to be the positive ones, and about how they think it's much better than the U.S.A., which it probably is.

Here's my link.
http://www1.internationalliving.com/qofl2011/?field=economy

These numbers are crunched from the following sources:
UNESCO Statistical Yearbook; Freedom in the World: The Annual Survey of Political Rights and Civil Liberties; U.S. State Department; The United Nations Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention; Yale University’s Environmental Performance Index; The Freedom House Survey; Statistical Abstract of the United States; The World Factbook; The World Almanac and Book of Facts; The World Bank Atlas; Gale Country and World Rankings Reporter; U.S. Department of State Indexes of Living Costs Abroad, Quarters Allowances, and Hardship Differentials; The World Health Organization; UN Statistical Yearbook; The Economist World in Figures.

Error on my part about health. Europe scores 100 down to 80 not 89. That's half way. In this category, the number of people per doctor, the number of hospital beds per 1,000 people, the percentage of the population with access to safe water, the infant mortality rate, life expectancy, and public health expenditure as a percentage of a country’s GDP.

Read that paragraph again. Lawyers are the scum of the earth. As far as what business I'm in? I do lots of stuff. All legal.

Well, I must say, thank you for supplying the source. And a reputable one at that.

I'm afraid to inform you that you agree with me; I also hate lawyers.
Worse, you also agree with Lenin!; "The last lawyer should be hung with the entrails of the last priest."

I don't care if Lenin said it. It's true. Anything to hate or despise in civilization will be defended by a lawyer. Nothing, NOTHING is beyond their grasps. In so much as they are the majority and financiers of our political officials, THEY BECOME OUR JUDGES! That fucking good old boys network just runs rampant. Take anything into a court with 2 lawyers facing off and watch how many times it has to come back to court. Winner takes all for the verdict and both lawyers get paid. Ever been part of a class action suit? $5 million split amongst the 60,000? 50 bucks for me, $1.6 million for the firm. Oh, wait the losing lawyers get paid too. Being a lawyer is the best business in the world. They never lose money.

Here, in France, scandinavians models (of society) are usually seen as very good, very progressive... the kind of society we should get inspired from in order to improve our (even thought, for the last few years, it's all "Germany this" and "Germany, that", etc... As if Germany's socciety was perfect an the best we could do would be to copy-paste it here :dunno:)

Wrong in France, it is the same fucking unwilling to work parasites who leech off the social security and free healthcare since the 70's, sooner or later it will get privatized and it will be a good riddance of this fucking nanny state that make the hard working citizens to pay for a bunch a parasites that are adding nothing positive to the country. At least the American social system, it is work or starve , much more fair as an approach. Meritocracy, the best system which should be implemented.

Are you implying that the mere act of Lenin approving of something makes it incorrect?
Are you implying that the old boys club exists only outside the legal circle?
You're right; they never lose, yet often they don't provide a service. I can't think of a solution. You?

Oh please shut up already. Who pays the taxes? The poor. Who benefits? The rich. Enough of your bullshit. Wake up and smell the coffee your wife made.
Oh- wait. No wife. Maybe this explains all the misplaced anger.
Maybe Moslem black imigrant benefit seekers took the wife you should have had?
The amount spent on welfare is so very much smaller than that spent on corporate welfare. Why can't you just stop and have an open mind?
