Whoever made that CGI has no idea how fast an asteroid would be moving upon impact. You'd have a rapid buildup of heat, a flash, and lights out in less than a second.

Humanity is sunk if it's an asteroid as part of a religious Apocalypse. :surprise:
Exactly the heat and pressure wavefront ahead of so large an object would be enough to liquefy if not pulverize most free standing structures like towers and such,before it even impacts.:conehead:

Humans will survive like cockroaches.
However, like the Roman Empire, the existing/U.S. civilization will end because it is too easy to survive in current civilization. Fewer people will get involved. Fewer people will feel that the U.S. is something to be proud of and part of.
So, entitlements will grow (hey, can anyone say Obamacare) and politicians will continue to bribe the ignorant population with their own money until the economy collapses.
