Re: How Old Is Your Computer?

3 months, Mac 20''

How often do I buy ? only when required. My previous unit, an Imac G5 17'' lasted about, what ... 5 years or so :dunno: close enough. The thing became harder and harder to start up so I brought it to a techie who determined that capacitors on the logic board were getting long in the tooth as was the rest of the unit obviously so ...... poof ! there goes another $1200.00 + bucks that I didn't really want to spend. :o

2004. Only underwent GPU (integrated Intel GMA->GeForce 8600GT), sound card (integrated->SB Audigy), RAM (an additional 1GB) and drives (PATA->SATA) upgrades.

upgrade my system for every three years

i do. and the midget porn. it is a big hit with the little folks.

additionally, i leave all my banking information on there. i figure it is good to give the little bastards a chance to grow into full-grown felons.

oh, and blue, could you email me that picture involving you, three feet of garden hose, a can of pam, two cucumbers, a piece of very ripe stilton, and hillhopper, please? i left it on the other computer.

(hope you weren't hoping to run for office...)
I missed my mention here...Blue I thought that was a private moment between you and me and the 40 or so in attendance!? WTF? I don't even have this picture...send it to me too!

I get a new comp every year. I travel so much they get little chips and scratches all over them so i get a brand new one every January.

I have 2

A Dell I bought in 2004. I've done several upgrades and rebuilt it earlier this year.

I built a computer in Oct 2007 specifically to to do video/photo editing. I built it with specs to run Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Running Vista, 4 GB RAM, 2 EVGA Video cards in SLI and 3.0 hz Intel Core 2 Duo with Samsung 24" Monitor.

It was my first attempt at building my own. It went well. I'll never buy another retail computer. Not enough "bang for the buck" buying retail.

I upgrade mine about every two years. Its expensive as all hell to do it that way, but I have fewer issues with the machines in the long run. Besides I use Dell computers bought off their discount page and it seems to work out price point wise...get the goddamn insurance or extended warranty, my new Precision 690 came in with a shot power supply, it would have cost me hundreds to replace the power supply. They did it for free and came to my office too, the upgrade only cost me 50.00, so it works out.

I've had my computer since March 2005. In September 2011 it was battling constant reboot issues so I took it to the repair shop. Found out it had a leaky motherboard so I had to replace it. It's been working fine since then.

I went from a PC to a Mac as my primary system about 7 months ago. I still have some Windows PC's running quote and trading programs (more like "dummy terminals"). And even on the Mac I sometimes run Windows (when I need to), using Parallels on the second monitor. But for the most part, I'm now a BIG fan of the Mac platform. I've been pleasantly surprised by how stable it is, even when I'm running a memory/processor intensive program on the Mac side and a CAD/CAM program on the Windows side at the same time.

Updated my Mac about a year ago - but my old G4 tower is still happily working well into its second decade  it just couldn't cope with the demands of rendering HD film!
