HBO's "Generation ****"

From the same people who brought you one of the best shows ever made (The Wire), comes an amazing 7 part miniseries about a battalion of U.S. Marines in Iraq.

They deal with incompetant superior officers, technicalities about the actual rules of engagement, the stress from the lack of ***** and proper nutrition, and of course...they kick some ass.

The actors are amazing so if your into that bullshit CSI acting then you probably won't like it. It's real life. There's no music in the background, it's complicating, the story takes time to develop and in the end it's a better pay off.

It's kind of like The Wire meets Jarhead. I highly recommend watching it.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I didn't give this series a chance, after the devastation of losing the "The Wire" "The Soprano's" and other great HBO series from the past, I am really afraid to commit myself to another HBO series of ADDICTION status only to be let down when they decide to shut it down. Maybe after I get the loss of the "Wire" out of my system, then maybe I will watch "Generation ****" but with all the things that are showing now, "Sons of Anarchy" & "Breaking Bad" "Fringe" & the like, this maybe a watch in a year or so. :dunno::2 cents:

O/T - It finally it came to me who that was in your avatar... and your username makes sense now: Marlo (Stanfield). Great character on one of the best shows ever! It was so real that it was almost hard not to be depressed after the episodes went off.

I generally like military based shows. And I tried to get into "Generation ****" when it first came on, but :dunno:

Everyone is upset with The Wire ending early and want another season, and some people think that there may be a second part to Generation ****. I think David Simon likes to end his shows with people wanting more...more...MORE!

The Wire is a masterpiece and I'm beginning to think that Generation **** is, as well. No need to mess up perfect stories by adding unnecessary sequels.

Ray Ray had some of the best lines on television in recent memory.

"Did you just make that up?"
"Fuck yeah, I just made that up!"
When they were discussing ***** deprivation and the effect it had on color perception.

...I also really miss (Baltimore set also) Homicide: Life on the Street.

Some of my favourite lines in the show...

"Craig, Godfather needs you to unfuck this clusterfuck now!"
- Major Ekloff

"And you're standing here with your foots in your dicks! No, check that, your foot in MY dick"
-General Mattis

Have had them for a while but have never watched them.

I wanted something similar to Band of Brothers but with today's modern war. I am going to watch the first episode tonight.

That's not what he said.

Today I didn't even have to use my A.K.
I got to say it was a good day

I watched it and liked it. It was not as good as many other HBO shows of the past like "The Sopranos", "Band of Brothers" or "The Wire", but still.

For me as someone who's country refused to go to Iraq (even though we're there now) and who has always been skeptical of this war and the current attitude of many members of the US military, this was a very interesting mini-series, because it depicts the events very well. The dedication, the bravery and the hardships but also the occasional stupidity, narrow-mindedness and shallowness. The first minute they beat themselves up for shooting someone even though this person clearly ignored several warnings and the next minute they're enthusiastically shooting at civilians or dropping ignorant lines about how cool the atomic bombing of Hiroshima was. I was constantly torn between admiration, anger, frustration, sympathy and amazement.
It shows a lot about the modern warfare of a country whose morals and intentions become more and more conflicted, controversial, debatable and hard to comprehend, if you're not an American yourself.

The first minute they beat themselves up for shooting someone even though this person clearly ignored several warnings and the next minute they're enthusiastically shooting at civilians...

Which part are they enthusiastically shooting at civilians?
