Vampires: Yes Zombies: No

Zombies will always be great when they're used by somebody who knows how to use them. The Resident Evil movies were horrible, but old Romero-type stuff can be great today.

The problem is, today everything has to be bigger and more over the top, so zombies run and think and even shoot guns now...

But some new zombie action like this might be Ok.. http://dailyniner.com/index.php?page=gallery&which_gallery=5502

Vampires have always been lame. Think about it, if you come across a vampire, You Might die OR You Might become a fellow immortal with super powers. A bear is scarier than a vampire.

Er no. Its nothing at all like your mummy in armour ramblings. I don't want an entirely new creature, I haven't said vampires should stop ******** ***** for example. & anyway, in the Boris Karloff film The Mummy, the titular creature does shed his bandages pretty early on. Oh & there have also been other types of mummy such as Tibetan mummies which don't have wrappings.

You're right, it was a bad example. A better one would be a mummy visiting suicidal people & asking them if they'd like to be ******. If the answer is no, they leave the person unharmed.

Anyway, vampires do not have to fit into society. They could be living on the fringes, unknown by humans like in 30 Days of Night actually.
Secondly, have you heard of Jekyll & Hyde? This portrayed a character that had a sophisticated side & a baser aspect when transformed into Hyde. Its not a stretch to use this example for a more ****** bloodsucking creature rather than the bland angst ridden teenagers we are subjected to. Basically the vampire is, like a lot of mythological creatures, one that can be reinterpreted to suit different themes/concerns as long as you stick to the basics of them needing to ***** ***** to survive. Cronos for example is an interesting take on the vampire myth.

The creature we call a vampire today was made up in the late 18th century & has been a successful formula since that time (back then they didn't want their soul back... Something about modern vampires that bothers me as well.) Before that time a vampire wasn't what it is today. Like you said, it could be many things, but these vampires never became very popular amongst the public (except in rural villages in central & eastern Europe, where these stories originated).

I haven't seen the movie & only read the summary of the movie Cronos, but I do not think that the word vampire has ever been mentioned in the movie (at least not in the summary) or if it has, it has probably been followed/preceded by -like. This is a concious choice, since a large part of the public might not accept any different vampire than the ones we know so well from 18th & 19th century literature.

It might be a success, but it might also lead to very bad reviews. I doubt any producer would be willing to risk it.

Oh & I still have no idea what all that AD&D stuff was you was going on about?!?

AD&D (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) is a setting for multiple role playing games (both pen & paper & computer). I won't bother you with the details because there are too many of them & I don't know them all (I've only played the computer games...). The setting is a multiverse of inner planes (elemental planes), outer planes (planes ordered by the alignments mentioned in my previous post) & the prime material plane (the universe).

Everyone has an alignment. You either follow the law or you think the law is useless (of course the whole system changed in the 4th or 5th edition of the setting)...

Example :

If someone is wrongly accused of something and is sentenced to death a lawful good character would try to find the evidence needed to free the person.

If someone is wrongly accused of something and is sentenced to death a chaotic good character would break into jail & try to free the person.

A lawful evil character is a bit more difficult. It depends on what the person has to offer. If said person has something to offer which the lawful evil character wants, it might try to help the victim by finding evidence that proves the victim is innocent or preferrably by finding a gap or error in the law that makes the execution *******, but only if he got something in return which he'd find important (servitude from that person, for instance). If he wants an object and manages to get it before he fullfills his quest, he'll simply quit doing it (he's not interested in the victim, simply in what he wants). A lawful evil character will also help a ********, thief, etc, for the same reason.

A chaotic evil character probably wouldn't be around anyway, but if such a character were, it'd probably end in a bloodbath. The chaotic evil character likes ******* & hurting others and see others suffer simply because he finds it enjoyable or because he's got nothing else to do at the moment. He certainly wouldn't help the victim & if the victim is not careful & nobody else is watching, he might **** the victim himself. The only people they listen to are the people that have proven to be stronger than them.

Neutral characters will sometimes do good deed, sometimes evil deeds, sometimes they'll obey the law, but they're not afraid to break it either.

Casper the friendly Emo Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie, Terrorist, Wife-beater, Bullshit has hammered a Stake in the ******* Movie genre.
Its sort of become a whiney teeny version of Sesame street.
This week Gordon and Luise lecture Big Bird when he refuses to take it up the ass from a Zombie because he is afraid of catching Leprosy.

That explains a lot!

In fact, i'm constantly searching for movies about them. Can't hardly wait for the one with Ethan Hawke, Daybreakers (Jan 2010)

The Zombies were OK, but after exploding on the scene with She's Not There, they had nowhere to go but down.

OK, seriously, both will always be there. They seem to go in phases of popularity and quality. Vampires are simply going through and icky phase that will die out soon enough.

Totally sick of the vampires tbh. Well the boo hoo look at poor old me I am immortal dont you realise how tragic that is! And dont get me started on the teen angst crap thats in twilight. 30 days of night was quite refreshing actually all the new stuff is ******* it. Zombies however never lose there appeal especially the comical value.
