Greatest lead vocalist in rock n roll history?

Can't believe people are saying Chris Cornell. I have his debut and Soundgarden album or two but he never blew me away.

I think he got allot better as lead vocalist for Audioslave, personally. Check out some of his later work on VEVO.com, hell even his James Bond soundtrack was good.

He actually got a lot better way before that.I will concede that his vocals were a lot more raw sounding on Louder Than Love and Ul tra mega OK(wow, this stupid forum edited me for an album title),but got quite a bit better on Screaming Life.Ultimately,it may have come down to production quality, because he really broke through on Bad Motor Finger, and never looked back.

Cornell is my favorite, but the best is probably Freddie Mercury. Also, someone that doesn't get nearly enough credit for his talent is the late great Jeff Buckley.

lots of great vocalists listed so far but i haven't seen sebastian bach's name yet...he's done some incredible things with his voice

Well, c'mon. We're talking Greatest, not above average. Bach had great vocal range, but he blew it on mediocre music. Here today, gone tomorrow, no one really misses him.

There's a lot of great ones mentioned... but if I only get one vote, it had to be Robert Plant.

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
I agree with the comments about Dylan and Neil Young but their songwriting genius transcends their lack of vocal prowess so we just kind of have to give them a pass.

Best female vocalist: Anne Wilson
Best male vocalist: Ray Charles

Honorable mention: Steve Walsh-Kansas

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I know I play devils advocate allot and always say that there are so many too choose from there can be no 1 correct answer so I will stick with my guns with this topic as well, there are so many that can be nominated but how can there ever be 1 correct answer? for example I can agree that Robert Plant was the greatest. but there are too many that others could pick that could win as well, just like others could pick 1 of the following & they could be correct as well. blah, blah, blah. the debate will continue forever. :dunno::2 cents:

1. Ozzy Osbourne
2. Corey Taylor
3. Zack De La Rocha
4. Maynard James Keenan
5. Joe Elliot
6. Mick Jagger
7. Phil Anselmo
8. Brian Hugh Warner (AKA Marilyn Manson)
9. Pink Floyd (whichever lead you liked best, Barret, or Waters)
10. Freddie Mercury

There's 13 examples and @ what point do you stop taking nominations or who makes the final decision? there is no greatest or best ever, theres just a bunch of GREAT lead singers.
