Greatest Comedian of all time

George Carlin is my pick, mainly because of his longevity in the industry and his material was always great. The darkhorse candidate would have to be Richard Jeni, not the most well known but his material was very good at times.

I'd have to say Carlin too :hatsoff:

Pretty sure this threads been done at least once before on the forum (don't feel like diggin').

For me it's Chris Rock and Jim Norton.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Carlin, Pryor were tops. Rodney was awesome, Kinisin had his moments. Bill Hicks is a god. Carlin and Pryor were the best though. Anyone else is following in footsteps

Great thread.. I was thinking about this the other day! Who I thought was the best. I tell you my personal Fav. of all time has to be the Great George Carlin! He was great and I loved his stand ups on religion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNy6ziOyxoA.... Now I think the best though of all time would most likely have to be Richard Pryor! The best present comedian? Chris Rock!

Do you want to cover everything? stand up and comedy acting in movies & TV?

There's a lot of choices from the people that came up through Vaudeville & Burlesque, then into TV as it evolved:

Harold Lloyd
Buster Keaton
Marx Brothers, Groucho in particular
Three Stooges
Ritz Brothers
Milton Berle
Jackie Gleason
Lucy Ball
Phil Silvers
Sid Caesar
Jonathan Winters
Ernie Kovacs
Steve Allen
Jimmy Durante
Danny Kaye
Bob Hope
Carol Burnett
Johnny Carson
Shecky Greene
Danny Thomas
Jerry Lewis
Dean Martin

and later
Smothers Brothers
Flip Wilson
Richard Pryor
George Carlin
If you just want stand up in the last 20 years I'd say Gallagher.

Love Artie Lange too.... One funny motherfucker!

Richard Prior
