Comedians fall into categories and I'm assuming that you mean stand-up comedians.We've had so many top class ones from the days of radio-Ted Ray , Jimmy Edwards,Chic Murray and so on. Before that there were the great music hall comedians.Remember Max Wall?Later on in the TV age there are Billy Connolly, Jasper Carrott and the likes.Over the pond they had George Carlin , gently funny , didn't split your sides like Billy and Jasper but first class in his own right.
Then there were scripted comedians and outstanding among them was of course Ronnie Barker.Honourable mention goes too to David Jason and Leonard Rossiter.
The tragedy is that there is nobody remotely of the class of those I mentioned coming forward at present.
