Pripyat fascinates me for a few reasons:

Everyone had to leave-and leave right now, bring no posessions, except the clothes on your back (disposed of at perimeter decontamination centers). Everything was left in the city.

It is truly a time capsule to the era of the Soviet Union at its climax, before weaknesses began to show.

That they went back to build tributes to the heroes who, quite literally, saved the Earth. It touches me that they went back into "The Zone" to honor them duely.

Time and vandalism has changed the place, but the photographs tell a fascinating story.

Aside from the reported asbestos and peeling lead paint, :o Almaden Air Force Station is a great place to be on a clear and unny day. The site offers beautiful views from Monterey Bay and beyond to the South to San Francisco and beyond to the North (Air quality permitting).

There also happens to be a great deal of military history at Alma Air Force Station, whether or not it is off limits these days, I don't know.

I love ghost towns, especially the photography. I find Chernobyl fascinating, and I would like to go there some day.

Did you all see that show on the History Channel, Life After Humans or something like that? Interesting show, though for some reason I just can't help feeling like it's an environmentalist's Wet Dream.

The site closed in 2005 judging by calenders and newpapers everywhere. The company was started in 1894 and was later worth around £800,000 (based on share value) which was a lot of money back then. The place is quite big and takes a while to get around. There are thousands of samples of various cloth types from all around the world and bobins of thread everywhere as you would expect in a mill. There was very little machinery probably because it was sold in the auction they had. Luckily there is very little chav damage and most cabling is still intact. They didn't seem to invest much money in IT and other general office items because you can find things like old Amiga PC's and 70's syle hand dryers etc. The mill produced some of the finest cloth, which was used by big names such as Crombie
