Pripyat fascinates me for a few reasons:
Everyone had to leave-and leave right now, bring no posessions, except the clothes on your back (disposed of at perimeter decontamination centers). Everything was left in the city.
It is truly a time capsule to the era of the Soviet Union at its climax, before weaknesses began to show.
That they went back to build tributes to the heroes who, quite literally, saved the Earth. It touches me that they went back into "The Zone" to honor them duely.
Time and vandalism has changed the place, but the photographs tell a fascinating story.
