Formula 1 2012

Makes you wonder though - how would the race have gone if Lewis would have started in 1st? Or with a less severe penalty and further ahead?

M. Schumacher shows once more that he had been the most over-rated Champion after Ayerton Senna's untimely departure, he's was gone 3 years, and is now back for quite some time and can't really deliver results. On the other hand Iceman had been gone 2 years and still gets up on the podium (not winning yet, but he is constant - something that, if the Season continues as it does, will prove quite positive).

The drive-through penalty to Vettel, was pretty much uncalled for in my eyes. Didn't really do much to the race though, since he might have only done better by one spot in the end.

Next Race in 2 weeks: Monaco - which car will be ahead? Maybe Marussia? Perhaps Caterham? Could also be HRT...

Fire in the Williams garage after the race! Senna's car was burned out, Williams and ***** India personnel were taken to the hospital.

The stewards have given Michael Schumacher a five-place grid penalty for Monaco. It was determined that he was at fault for the crash.

Update on the Williams garage fire:
Staff members from Williams, ***** India, and Caterham were taken to the circuit's medical center. No serious injuries have been confirmed. The FIA confirmed that 31 people were seen at the medical facility. Valtteri Bottas says there was some sort of explosion in the garage. The garage has taken extensive damage, as has Bruno Senna's car, which was in the garage when the fire started.

I didn't even bother to watch this race live. I just watched it on Tivo. The whole Hamilton thing just had me too pissed off. But I'm glad I watched this one. Although Pastor Maldonado and Fernando Alonso are my two LEAST favorite F1 drivers, they did put on quite a show today. And I would have never, ever , never-ever thought that Pastor Maldonado would have won an F1 race. But he drove the race of his life today. Great job by Maldonado and Williams. Really happy that Frank won at least one more before the end came.

Also, shame on Fox/Speed for cutting away before the interviews took place... for a soccer game?! Why is there a soccer game on a motorsports channel??? Hell, the way Speed is now, there's barely even (real) motorsports on it anymore. But at least I learned that DirecTV subscribers can now get Speed2. Another big

Another thing I noticed about this race (the Spanish GP) is it was a perfect example of how DRS should work: it allowed faster cars to close on slower cars and pass them, and it even allowed an equally fast following car to catch a leading car. But I didn't notice ANY cases where a slower car could catch and pass a faster car. Alonso and Maldonado were about equal on lap times at one point near the end. And Alonso was able to catch Maldonado by using DRS. But because he wasn't truly faster, he was unable to get around the Williams. And with the Williams faster through the turns, Maldonado was able to pull away from Alonso, and even caused Alonso to destroy his tires trying to keep up. So within a few laps, Maldonado was able to create an even bigger gap (in excess of 1 second) and prevent Alonso from further use of his DRS. And because Alonso burned up his tires, he was almost caught by Kimi Raikkonen's Lotus. I think given another lap or two, Raikkonen would have gotten Alonso for 2nd.

I know some people are critical of the tire situation. But IMO, the tires being two steps apart this race, combined with DRS, made this a very interesting tactical race. The drivers and chassis that were able to manage their tires (even Hamilton, for once!) were the ones who saw the greatest success. I also like the fact that F1, unlike the Indy Car series here in the U.S., keeps the track green (or at most, uses local yellows) to make sure that outside ****** don't overly influence the outcome of the race. Full course yellows and safety cars should ONLY be used when it is absolutely necessary. I wish that lesson could learned here in the U.S. (in Indy Car and NASCAR). Artificially bunching up the field near the end might make for more exciting finishes, but it is just that: artificial.

On to Monaco!

Gotta agree on that. I don't like Alonso, I don't really like Ferrari (unless when they spend 20 years not winning a title), and I absolutely don't like Williams (except the ******** - she's quite decent looking :drool2:), don't have anything against Maldonado though - never even considered the guy before this race :) Sure, among my least favorite teams, I would have been way happier if Iceman had had the possibility to pass those two in front, and win.

Be happy that they still show Races at all on Fox/Speed, as long as they don't go down the path that SyFy went, where now you get the same boring Shows like on other Networks, but no real Science Fiction.

I agree with you on Kimi. I'd have been very happy to see him win that race. The Lotus is really a very strong chassis this year - at least on par with the Mercedes, if not better. I think the Iceman will get at least one victory before 2012 is over.

When SciFi became SyFy, and "professional" wrestling showed up, the end was in sight. There's now only one show on there that I watch: Merlin. Like Speedvision, I used to watch SciFi all the time. Are you able to get Speed 2? It really is fantastic. Instead of the endless reality TV crap that's on Speed, there is loads of formula and sports car racing featured on Speed 2 - along with "real" motorsports shows. It's an internet channel. So if your cable or ISP is listed on their page, you should definitely check it out. It's like the return of the old Speeedvision. :nanner:
