FEMA, your "safety net"

I can't help but think why don't these people move and rent an apartment somewhere else? It's not like they lost their house. They were paying rent before what's the difference now?

I'm usually not on the side of government, but they were just trying to do what's right. Maybe they should have just let people fend for themselves. Then they'd be criticized for that.

Bush and Cheney is Dumb and Dumber. One big fiasco!

well, it goes into the why on page 3. with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, i'm sure the huckabees would've chosen differently. going back, maybe they shouldn't have settled in new orleans at all. the point is, you and me and the huckabees (nice name for a band?) all paid for this safety net, and we expected it to work. this is an example of why i feel the government should not be involved in these important areas. when they blunder this savagely, the customer (you and me and the huckabees) have no recourse.

Fair enough. What you say is very true. Our tax dollars have gone to pay for this help in times of disaster, and we do have reasonable expectations as to it's efficacy. I definitely agree that the government should not be involved (at least long-term) with disaster situations. Especially in housing people. I may have been a little harsh in my assessment, but basically my main point was that the government acted what I think is pretty close to it's best ability. They screwed people in the process with these tainted trailers. I think, though that it was an honest mistake, and maybe they shouldn't be blamed so much. All told, it is just another argument against the government being involved in such things at all.

That's one of the things that happens when the much of the population accepts the left-wing mantra that government will take care of you.

i believe we already witnessed that recently.

It's debatable whether Katrina's "response" would've been better without the Dept of Homeland Security...President Bush thought FEMA was a good place to hire a big donor buddy, Horse show jumping Marketer instead of an actual crisis management official...

It was their choice to stay in the free home and it was better than the alternative. Before anyone gets on FEMA for this, you must realize that formaldehyde has been used everywhere, even in beer. <like all anheuser bush products> :glugglug:

New modular homes are famous for the vapors emanating after construction and if you keep it shut up with the AC on, your gonna take em in.

Once again - there are just too many people to expect that EVERYone can maintain their standard of living even in the wake of a huge natural disaster. At least they had a place to go.
